Sunday's Olympic Test Event

Postby Wanderer » Mon Aug 08, 2011 1:22 pm

I may have missed something in earlier threads, but should the club be watching en masse from any particular vantage point? Headley Common Road, perhaps, assuming not many have been lucky to get the Box Hill wristband. It might look quite good on any coverage if club jerseys were in view. Thoughts?

If you have an MTB, then it's possible to get here from Epsom Racecourse. There's a small climb there. That was our plan anyway.

I have a suspicion that it'll be cancelled. Can you imagine the Daily Mail if not:

"Riots and looting in London and the Police are "Too busy" watching a bike race"

That would be a shame - though whatever happens, I'll be over at my parents in Thames Ditton helping to sort out my father's bikes - he's decided that he should start selling some of them... My parents live right on the route so we can stop and watch the race go by - if it still goes ahead.

Phil, If it's still on I might see you there. I put a post in the rides section.

Is this being shown on TV ? (the cycling not the beach volleyball)
Not that it means I won't come and watch it, but so I can see if I have time to cycle home (or a nearby pub) to watch the sprint for the finish.

Apparently highlights of the cycling and the beach volleyball will be on next Sunday.

Rode out via bridleways with Tom to a point near the top of a short, steepish ascent wasn't going to even try getting near Box - although the bridleway closures seemed amount to signs saying "bridleway closed 14th August". Quite a few gathered there including Aodan. I was a little concerned with the number of dogs what with some of the canine TdF incidents but all owners had them under good control.

Didn't realise quite how many people were out until we got caught up in the bedlam cutting back through to Walton.

It turned out to be a good spot, Phil, well done. And well away from any hyper sensitive marshalls.

Looks like Cavendish had two teams working for him today. No real photos of him but you can just about see his green helmet behind the two GB sky riders on the left. Perfect positioning for a sprinter. Is this the makings of his leadout train for next year ?
