Upcoming Time Trial events

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Upcoming Time Trial events

Postby Jon H » Thu Feb 23, 2006 8:58 am

I'd like to bring the following Time Trial events to your attention. It would be great if we could get a big turnout of Addiscombe riders for these.

Sunday 19th March, starting at 9am.
Croydon & District Cycling Association, Sporting 21 mile TT.
Two laps around the Bletchingley-Outwood loop.
Entries on CTT Entry Form to Don Glover, 55 Grasmere Road, South Norwood, London, SE25 4RQ by closing date 7th March. £6 entry.
The CDCA is being wound-up this year, so this is the last ever CDCA event. Show your appeciation for all the people involved in the CDCA by riding this event.

Saturday 25th March, starting at 2pm.
Southern Counties Cycling Union, Sporting 10 mile TT.
Around the lanes near Oakwoodhill (SW of Dorking).

Then have a rest overnight in preparation for:

Sunday 26th March, starting at 9am.
Southern Counties Cycling Union, Sporting 25 mile TT.
Around the lanes near Loxwood (a bit further SW of Dorking).

Both of these count for the SCCU Rawson Shield competition, which Addiscombe CC has won for the past few years for having the most participants in SCCU promotions.

Entries for both SCCU events on CTT Entry Forms to Robin Johnson, 7 Gorselands, Billinghurst, West Sussex, RH14 9TT by closing date 14th March. £6.50 entry for each.

I'll be riding all of the above, so will hopefully see you there.

And finally, if anyone needs an entry form or help completing it, I'll be only too glad to help.

Jon,

I am intersted in doing one of these. Probably the 25 miles tt. Do I need to just fill out a form, or do I need license / insurance etc.

PS - Sent you an email on this subject.

Thanks,

Graham.

Graham

As long as you are a member of ACC then no additional licence/insurance is needed for time trials.

You need to fill in an official entry form, available on the ctt website, post it to organiser with cheque before the closing date.

good luck

Sorry to ask a silly question, but how do you prove your are a member of the club. I don't have any form of membership card - am I missing something?

Not a silly question at all. You are not asked for a membership card or any other sort of proof (and you're not missing anything as we don't have them) so there is nothing to stop you claiming to be a member even when you are not.

If someone does do that though they will generally get spotted sooner or later (lots of people read the start sheets and notice new names). More importantly if you're not a member of a club you are not insured when you ride.

Ninder and I have entered the CDCA 21 mile sporting event on 19 March. We're doing it in style on the tandem !

Nice one Ajay.
Have you ridden round the course on the tandem? The descent from Bletchingley towards Outwood has been resurfaced so should be super fast now. 35mph+ on a solo, so should be 40mph+ on the tandem.
Good luck.

Postby Graham O » Mon Mar 13, 2006 10:19 pm

Well,

Just got details of the route for the CDCA 21 mile. Does anyone know how hilly / flat the route is..

Ta,

Graham.

Fairly hilly, but no biggies or really steep stuff. Starts with a long steady drag up through Bletchingley village and over the M23. Then after turning off the A25 there's a fast sweeping descent which can be a bit scary as some of the bends are a bit blind when you're doing over 30mph. After going back under the M23 it's undulating out to the furthest point on the course. On the way back there are three short sharp hills which are little ring and probably out of the saddle jobs. The finish is at the top of the last of these just before getting back into Bletchingley, on the second lap. I'll probably use my whole gear range on this course, 54-12 down to 42-21.

If you're not a mountain goat like Jon those 3 short sharp hills are very painful.

I generally come to a grinding halt on my way up the last one the second time round. I wouldn't attempt the course without at least a 39*23 and I would be tempted to put a 27 on the rear if I was riding it again this year.

Shame I'm busy this year :D

Good luck to everyone who is riding it this year.
