Yet another ... ACC win (Palace 08/05)

Postby Sylv » Tue May 08, 2007 9:30 pm

Well done again George, a deserved solo win. Good attack halfway up the climb win 4 (?) laps to go, other attacks there (including from me) got reeled in pretty quick but this one left everyone for dead. We knew George wasn't going to let a 100+ miler ride get in the way of a 45 minute race ...

Once he was away George moto-ed his way around the tight bends, not forgetting to smile and wave at the numerous ACC spectators, and stayed away till the end :D I did my best not to help the chasing group.

Comical moment was when a rider went to try and chase George on his own and in the fury must've scratched his pedal on the bend before the downhill, then went flying into the grass.

Every week a different ACC wins at Palace ... hope it's my turn next week

Watching this week as race bike packed for its holiday. Was watching with Dave L on the hill when George attacked. Immediately opened a gap.

Every remaining lap he powered up the hill out the saddle the whole way, continuing to open up the gap on the bunch, with no ACC going to chase no-one else seemed capable.

You'll all be glad to know that depite his effort soloing to victory George never stopped smiling, or calling out to supporters. :D

We knew the race was about to finish when George powered past, we shouted encouragement, and were rewarded with a call back "last lap, woooo hoooo" and off he went. :D 8)

Awesome result, George.
To be honest, I expected nothing less.
Just wish I'd been there to see it.

Well done,mate.

After the Brighton ride yesterday my legs felt good for an assault on the palace circuit. Great to see so many Agreeables racing easily the greatest number of club riders present today.

Got up near the front from the start with Sylv who was doing loads of work.

Today no one really wanted to get on the front and do much work, everyone kept pulling over or easing up, I did note this in the back of my mind for later.

Rounding the bottom sweeping corner on about the 2nd lap I was up front saw my mum & dad so waved at them, I got my coordination all wrong and my left pedal hit the deck with a load bang, my back wheel bounced as well as my heart, Boy was I lucky not to come off!

Paul H came up with a bit of a charge, but other riders reeled him back in, then I slipped back down the pack a little to hide my Attack launch, and necked an energy gel.

2/3rds of the way up the climb I went for it up the outside giving it 100% effort, rounding the sharp corner after the start straight, I couldn’t believe I’d pulled out 100yards.

No one came to play with me so I kept it going solo, really grimacing in pain for the first couple of laps and going all out every time up the hill.

The gap was getting bigger each lap; I think I went a little crazy around some of the bends, and was smiling and whooping to the spectators.

Ding ding last lap looked back and they were out of sight whooppeee, I knew I had finally done it and crossed the line with arms aloft.

It was nice at the end everyone shook my hand in congratulation, really good feeling of club camaraderie.

:D :D :D :D

Great stuff George, it was good to watch.

I shouldn't have been watching as I was in the race as well but only managed 8 or so laps - legs totally dead. My first ride at the Palace. At least now I know what I'm in for.

Well done to all the Addiscombe - good turn out :D

Well 103 miles yesterday was enough of an excuse for me. I suffered for the first 10 laps but then felt annoyingly comfortable at le arriere du peloton. Unfortunately i just didn't have the gas to move up near the finish. But a comfortable finish in the bunch no less, it definately wasn't as hard as i remembered from last year. Oh well, im off to Eelmore tomorow evening so hopefully ill be better there!

I would like to point out that George didn't actually ride all the way to brighton yesterday

Anyhoo, im feeling a bit philosophical about racing at the moment, having been robbed of some points at Chertsey. Then having an allergic reaction to something on sunday. A wet and windy ride to Brighton did little for morale but show me i could do 100 miles. And all this after my Ear infection. Oh well, thats life i suppose.

A boring pan flat unimaginative scalectric type course. Along with Hillingdon probably the easiest circuit to race on for 3/4 cats - its perfect for flatland cruisers and lazy sprinters. If ya legs have recovered and no sneaky chancers getaway you'll make the poduim no probs Adam :D
