Mens Hybid / MTB style bikes needed for Rehab project

Postby Tim Coales » Fri Jun 24, 2011 6:23 pm

Hi all,

I'm on the lookout for some unwanted/unused bikes suitable for general purpose use by occupants of a hostel for male ex-offenders that I'm involved with. The bikes would be used for the guys to attend Probation/medical appointmants/job interviews etc., and thus aid their rehabilitation into the community. We have been quite successful with assitsing turnaround in the lives of our client group, but due to the effects of the CSR, Croydon Council is removing us from their list of housing suppliers thus funding for the project are very tight, however there could possibly be a few quid going. :)

I'm really looking for those old dusty/rusty but servicable bikes that are laying around unused and unwanted in sheds and garages. Preferably medium sized frames, 26inch or 700C wheels, hybrid/rigid MTB style are best, but anything considered. I can sort out minor stuff like punctures, cables and brake blocks etc., but not broken frames, badly buckled wheels etc! Teaching basic repairs and respect for property would be part of the project.

I have given away a number of my own "racer" style bikes to help others over the years and now have nothing suitable left. :(

If you don't have anything yourself, any leads would be welcome :D

Many thanks,

Hi Tim,

I don't have any suitable complete bikes, at the moment, but I have several 26" wheels that may be useful if you get offered otherwise suitable bikes with buckled wheels. I'll also be happy to help with repairs up to and including building/repairing wheels.
