Garmin Edge 705 Details

Postby Marky Mark » Sat Sep 13, 2008 4:31 pm

A few people have been asking me where I got my Garmin Edge 705 (bundle) from.
Direct Web Retail

Southwing
Tilgate Forest Lodge
Brighton Road
Peaspottage
RH11 9AF
tel 01444 400 391 / 08444 431 998
fax 08444 431 999

I went direct to them and paid £260.00 cash and still got an invoce/receipt.

The unit only comes with European base maps built in so I have also just got the Topo maps of SE England and Wales (microSD card) £65.99 from them.

Please feel free to ask me anything about the Gizmo.. There is probably loads in it that I have not even used yet.

You lot are so silly.

But you do have to wear one of these on your head....

Looks like you can get the Euro model with HRM + cadence for £227 posted on eBay

I assume the base maps aren't of much value anyway, so any potential downsides?

The base maps in a word are cr@p to average, they would get you home, but not in a way you would ever think of  .
But even with base maps, It still records your route with pin-point accuracy.

I find the topo maps are a cross between a good Satnav and a route drawn on a O.S.map.

Feel free to look at mine any time.

If you got a bundle at £227, that sounds like a good price. Is it new and guarenteed?

Additional cadence sensor would be handy, to save swapping it from bike to bike.

No go then Sonic?

A note to everybody who uses a cadence sensor with the Garmin.

When you replace the battery (CR2032), don't go to bike+ and get 2 batteries for £3, they wont lat 5 minutes, I measured mine after 2 weeks... 0.7v, should be 3v.

I took them back with the receipt and told I brought the wrong batteries, I said they were the ones he sold me.
Then he told me they were no good and I needed the expensive ones, He gave me 2 expensive ones F.O.C, nice man.

You will need the Sony CR2032 3 Volt Lithium Cell.

Pass the message to John the old'n, and you can get cross talk from other HR and CAD units if you power up within 10 meters of others.

I'm looking at buying a 705 with HRM and cadence (and maps) in the next few weeks.

Anyone know of any cheap deals? I've looked all over the net and so far, the cheapest i've come up with is £250 for the unit and sensors and then £40 for the Euro City mapping.
