WOW!! A great turn out today - lots of faces we haven't seen for a while - and this was a grey day in February - how many are we going to get out when the sun starts to shine?! good to see Alex and JonH - really nice to be there at the cafe to see Monty receive his award from Joyce. TG was well supported yet again, a smallish 19, two 18s, THREE 17s, and a largish 15/16.

I led a 'fast' 17 that got caught by the fast boys from the 'steady' 17 - by Reigate we had about 20 riders! After a major diversion around Reigate - we were the only group that just didn't ignored the road closure - we decided to split at the common. John and Tim's group (who ignored the diversion) caught us up for a quick chat. SteveB took the faster guys and I held back a group of 9.

We got going again - Sam, Claire, Clive, John, Duncan?, Mikel, and two others whose names escape me (sorry fellas). i was determined we weren't going the face the humiliation of getting caught by the 15/16s again so I drove the group on like a man possessed!!! We eventually turned ourselves into a well oiled machine - it took time - but we got the hang of rotation, regrouping, riding tight formation. Everyone took their turn on the front - special mention to Claire who worked particualrly hard for us.

Sam got the jump on everyone and won the sprint.

Really enjoyed the ride, great bunch, thanks everyone. :D :D

First things first, I still need 8-10 more helpers for the ACC 25 promotion on 24th April morning please. I have put up a notice on the board in the cafe and will give out a call when I'm on the CR but please can you point your fellow agreeables to it as a reminder as they may not use the forum. Thank you.

I joined Phil's 18s alternate route out to the cafe this morning. Thanks Phil, it was a nice route and showed me some new lanes as I don't know that area very well. A nice bit of climbing thrown in of a variety of types which made for a more enjoyable ride out with greater variety. We were a good group of 6 who were all comfortable with the pace and the extra climbing so just rode as we saw fit rather than watching the speed to stick to a "tin ride". That said with the extra climbing you couldn't average the same speed for the same effort as the standard route.

With the forecast having been grim for tomorrow I'd decided to make the most of today to get some more miles in as I won't now be doing the Sydenham reliability. Iliya and Nic joined me for a multi-national trio, although unfortunately after a few miles Nic broke up our mini UN and called it a day and headed for home as his legs weren't playing ball.

Iliya and I had a nice ride out to Colgate and Mannings Heath, and then back through North Horsham and up the 10% hill to Rusper. From there back to Newdigate and over to Box Hill, except we climbed up the longer Headley Road climb which I like. It's a nice long one that allows you to get in to a good rhythm and then build up the pace so you can really start to push it to the top. Sun and blue sky, wasn't it lovely.

Back through Kingswood to Coulsdon and home, a good quality 5 hours riding door to door. A thoroughly enjoyable ride, thanks for the company Iliya.

Well, I was quite happy with today's ride even if was just the usual route - I've been feeling so much stronger and getting back on form this year :D Could feel I was really starting to ride properly without dying if I tried to push up a hill or do a little spurt to rein someone back

Watch out guys, I may be back this year*

* hope that hasn't put the mockers on it....

Good to hear you are feeling better Amy.

A quick plea from an off the bike member of the club.

More ride reports please.

I'm missing being able to ride so need to keep up to date with what is going on, either on the club run or any other Addiscombe ride.
hope to be back in the saddle in the spring/summer, and look forward to seeing you all again then.

thanks Joanna

OK, Jo, not really much to report, but here goes.

First day back on the bike for me after a dose of flu :( . Not only my first day out, but the first outing for my new (to me) race bike :-) . Well it's been sat in the kitchen looking at me for a long time. Carbon frame, deep section Zipps, no mudguards - a little excessive in early February, but I wanted to check nothing was likely to fall off on a training ride rather than have my crank fall off in a race  . Wet grimy roads, but what the hell, it'll wash off.

To avoid the temptation of jumping straight back in with the TG and overdoing it on the first post-flu outing, I didn't go up to CSS, instead I headed out alone on the CR route. Got swept up by the first group on the road (TG-B) and sat-in all the way to the DC, letting Serge & Martin do all the work  .

The A's arrived looking a little worse for wear and I continued to develop my sitting-in skills, observing the T 'n O from behind.

Steady back via a quick cuppa. 60+ miles in the legs having managed to not overdo it.

Hope you're back in the Saddle soon Jo.

Went with a small group of 18s down to Charlwood along with Mark Mclaughlin.

I think we started with 5, absorbed one more on the dual carriageway and then another in the shape of our Franco German occasional Burkhard who, although very strong, mistimed his layering up whilst with TG-A and couldn't get back on again.

Apologies for not remembering or knowing names apart from a guy named, er, Guy, a Neil I think as well as Lucy App.

Burkhard was able to join a training group punture victim and others after the Common and we carried on with a nice steady run to the cafe via Lamb's Green, hopefully achieving or bettering our regulation speed (I don't have a speedo)?

As Burkhard was keen to do Box Hill and his mate Ton had not done this epic climb (ok ok), we headed over with another small group to Box Hill. Post climb Burkhard broke ranks on the attempted T&O run in to Tadworth and was rewarded with a puncture....

Nona's was as packed as I have seen it and the locals seemed to have ceded the place to ACC. Either that or Angelo is requiring sight of a bike in order to gain entry on Saturday lunch times.

I also decided to try alternate route and Joined Phil’s group. Although I’ve been through the lanes before I didn’t cycle that way for a few years. It was a nice change of scenery y compared to the regular CR.

Second part of the ride was more demanding some steep and some long climbs but enjoyable nevertheless.

Thanks Andrew! I’m glad I joined you. It was a good workout which is what I needed as I’m trying to re-join B chain gang.

Big turn out for the B's again. Pace again was quick helped by Serge in his bright pink arm and leg warmers. Just into the lanes and Andy W got a flat so stopped with Peachy, Lee and Burkhard as the others carried on. Steve B went by with another group but turned back to come see us. Andy's problem was a big slash in his tyre so he and Peachy went off in search of a bike shop as the 4 of us continued. Soon got into a good T&O with Lee going well until he found it a little difficult so he sat at the back(your getting stronger though dude :D ) Steve, Burkhard and myself set a good pace down to the cafe which meant for a good workout, cheers guys.

Quiet ride back with a small group then onwards home to be struck down with a migraine minutes after walking through the door.

Charlwood.

If it helps: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/67898756

I forgot to turn my Garmin on when we left. And yes, I could've gone down White Hill off the High Road.

Not going through that shortcut at Headley again. It gets worse and worse.
