After recovering from my trip to the Outer Hebrides (I really must inflict the photos on you - the weather was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G) I thought I'd better get back out and dragged myself out of bed yesterday for the club run. The Enigma felt lighter than a feather after riding the touring bike for nearly a fortnight so I felt fairly confident joining the 17s even though it was led by Mick Ward... I really enjoyed the new route via Betchworth - perhaps that could become the new club run even after the bridge reopens. Adds a couple more miles and a hill and is nicer than the Flanchford Bridge road. Felt quite good all round and held onto the group even up hill most of the time. Given that it was a Mick 17, a few more of those and I should be more than ok for the 18s
Decided not to over do it as I was out again Sunday so came back with Mick and reversed the route out to get back as I'd forgotten the bridge was closed - d'oh... With the new route out and back I still did more miles than even going via Box on the usual cr route.
And occasionally I find a little ray of light in the world - stopped to pet the big fierce guard dog (a schnauzer called Ruby

) outside the tool shop in Wallington and ended talking to a guy about the state of the roads. Looked like the sort to say he hated cyclists but he didn't, he rode a scooter and didn't I find the stuff they put on cracks in the road slippery?
