Sorry, Jon, you missed a really good ride in amazing weather - hope all is as well as can be expected with you and your family.
Only one person was able to join me today though Belinda rode a short way towards Pebble with us and Tina nearly joined us before she remembered she'd made a prior commitment to ride with Sandy. I started the ride by climbing up to the Chipstead High Road before dropping down White Hill and over towards Walton on the Hill. Here Belinda left us to prepare for her swimathon tomorrow, while David and I continued along to drop down Pebble Coombe, then over through Brockham and onto the little lanes including Root Hill. We then climbed up that little short sharp hill past Henfold Lakes into Newdigate and Capel. I had already not to kill myself quite yet by riding up any of the hills such as Leith, Holmbury or Winterfold so we followed the B2126 through Holmbury St Mary to 11s at Abinger Hammer where we had the tea room and gardens entirely to ourselves. I had tea and treacle tart and David had hot chocolate and a cake with pecan, cranberries and something else, I've forgotten.
After 11's, it was a short warm up ride past Shere to come up Coombe Bottom, a nice steady ride till the last 50 metres where it hangs a sharp left and goes up enough to warrant an arrow on the map. Rode along the top to drop down to East Horsley and then some back roads to Great Bookham before returning to the Chipstead Valley Road by going past Polesden Lacey, down to Westhumble, up Little Switzerland and over to Walton on the Hill. I turned up to Woodmansterne for one last hill leaving David to head home towards Coulsdon.
We were probably about an hour later back than on a normal club run but it was totally worth it
