Dear Agreeables

Really enjoyed the Brighton and back last week but it's back to normal this Saturday.

Well the 20 mphs proved popular!! We had to have TWO groups a couple of weeks ago!!!  We'll have to introduce a 21 at this rate! :D :D

Don't forget it's just 4 fun this week and a chance to get friends and family into the the fabulous experience of the ACC CR the easy way - spread the word!

and of course, HOORAY!!!, it's what all cycling fans have been waiting for since the spring classics and the Giro - the TdF starts this weekend - I shall be glued to the TV whenever work allows. I'm so sad I even watch more than the last 10 minutes of the flat stages! fanatic or what!? i just love it! :D :D

The Tour de France kicks off on Saturday so I was wondering if anybody fancied watching the race down at the South London Harriers clubhouse in South Coulsdon?

Big TV with a bar stacked full of beer, what more do you want! Must point out that we do not currently have freeview, however, I'm going to take a box down with me, so in theory we should be able to watch the coverage on ITV4 but in practice this has not been tested, oh well I'm sure that 'it will be alright on the night'!

We have changing and shower facilities at the clubhouse so if anybody wants to drop a bag off before the club run I will open up it up from 8.50 to 9.05.

The clubhouse is located down the alley way to the side of the Old Comrades Club, 194a Brighton Road, Coulsdon, CR5 2NF

All welcome, coverage starts at 12 so no slacking on your way back from Box Hill!

Thanks Mike for a great alternative ride today and to all for the company. Some good hills and great views ... and by golly the carrot cake was good in Abinger. I confess I was dreading Whitedown, but in the end it wasn't as bad as I remembered. Then again the one and only other time I'd cycle up it was during the Addiscombe Sportive; guess I was a little less tired today. Thanks again.

Oh, and Pete, no more picking fights with old ladies!

Until next time.

Alternative ride with map and pics

Well done Mike a cracking ride worthy of our VC. I thought you did great with a big group, although it must have felt like herding cats at times.
I loved the hills (4,379ft), the cake and the company.
I was very impressed with the whole group when we changed route and rode back up Pasture Wood Road (a fair climb) to go looking for one lost comrade (we don't lose them often!) luckily the cake at Abinger Hammer made up for us not reaching Shere.

Avg moving speed was 15-16mph, but that varies a lot with the terrain

A cautionary note, always make sure your pedals are attached and don't try answering the phone when cycling, especially when climbing Whitedown!

It was an excellent Disagreeable ride today one of the hardest for a while but a good group led by Mike Ingram. With 20 in the bunch it was at the limit of manageable but it was fun and the Surrey Hills looked fantastic. It was cycling at its best; great company, lovely roads and a really friendly cafe with some exceptional cake.

Well, that was interesting. I seemed to pick up some TG defectors who decided that my 19s should be a TGC. Got shelled out that back of my own group approaching Newdigate but they slowed and I drafted a slow estate car to get back. Nick dropped back to pace me back on and I repaid his kindness by dropping him up the Rusper drag. A short wait by Lambs Green and, against my better judgement I (and almost everyone else) went for some T&O on the dual carriageway.

One I got myself onto the G53 course, well the pedalling reflex kicked in and it seemed fine. Not perfect but sustaining speeds in the high 20s. A bit of a communication failure lead to a confrontation with a coach - hope we didn't P him off too badly.

Garmin tells me average moving speed 19.9. Not sure what was up with me for the first 20 miles - maybe that encounter with work people in another pub between the Green Dragon and the station had something to do with it.

Good workout.
