Reminder: Tuesday Chaingang

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

The average HR is not accurate as it keeps dropping out.

The power output is at least 10% down on others powertaps.

Interesting. So you A group guys are only 3mph faster ... http://connect.garmin.com/activity/52755576

HR data indicates where I tried (and failed) to chase down Ant for the last few miles.

Huge turnout last night. Very good to see.

The B group seemed rather large and was rather strung out to begin with. It soon whittled itself down as one or two riders dropped off. Don't think I was the first for a change.

Usual for me hang on to Horley then blow up, my aim is to hang on to at least the turn by then end of the month. Thanks to John, ant and others for towing me along. I'm sure my fitness will soon come. I need to work on not blowing up after 9 miles, maybe a gel or something will help.

The through and off worked very well when it worked, still needs some polishing and riders not riding off when they have hit the front. But it was a good start and will only improve.

Again BP (I think he shoud be known as Phil the power2 and should have a face off with the real Phil the power to find out who is number one Phil the power) was strong last night and should certainly get his racing licence for next season along with some others. As Ant said previously there does seem to be a large number who could give racing a go and using the chain gang as a marker can only be good.

Hope to see as many faces next week week, if not more.

So you mean you're basically doing the whole ride on your own Marcus? Are you enjoying this? I don't think I would, at that time of day. Could there be a C group or something would that help?

Only useful data I have is, av hr 155, max 177

How embarrassing  - got dropped before Marcus did. Heart and legs weren't really in it last night - stomach had been a bit sore all the day before :(

Legs really ache today.

With the size of the 'B' group getting quite big - probably too big for the type of riding - how about breaking it into at least two groups, with a faster B group (B+?) and a slower B group (B- or shall we just call it C? :D)

Well, I was using "B+" to avoid demoting the rest of the Bs to C.

Yes, with a group of 10 it gets a bit too easy at the back - especially if the lead's not changing. Also a larger group is more likely to irritate irritable motorists - and makes a bigger target for taxis.

Do we need a clear leaders for the B and C groups? Who?

As Marcus said, excellent turn out last night and a thoroughly enjoyable ride.

Andy and I also discussed these points last night.

I thought we were better last night, but still didn't call enough rotations. SImple thing to fix and we should do so next week.......... before we get on to the more complex counter-clockwise stuff! :?

Also, the group was very big. Combined with the lack of rotation, it did mean some people sat towards the back too much, although not me this time as I seemed to be up in the front 2 or 3 for most of the time! :P

More important is Phil's point that the size of the group risks inviting drivers to take risks overtaking. So, splitting into B+ and B- may be a good idea.

I don't know, calling it B- rather than C, sounds like grade inflation!

That's the answer - we have A*, A and A- groups.

Like the idea of an A,B,C split. I felt the groups were too big last week and if was a bit frantic.
I guess riders just ride with whichever group they feel comfortable and if you get dropped by the B's, you ride with the C's the following week etc.

Sean, It's basically a CSS start and then down the A23 through Redhill to a roundabout just before Gatwick (A chain - 13.5 mile turn, B chain - 11.5 mile turn, C chain - whenever Marcus feels like it  )

Yep, great turn out last night.....but it meant the B group was waaaayyyyyyyyyy to large really. We need to get this sorted next week if its going to carry on being as popular as it is at the mo. Its just not safe or sensible or feasable to ride with the number we had last night and get a smooth T&O working so I suggest we break down the numbers to groups no larger than 8. All we need is another willing volunteer (or 2) to lead as I'll be starting to go back with the A gang very soon.

Some strong riders last night in the B's, Del was going well as was Kasper, couple of new guys putting in some big efforts and as for BIG Phil 'the power' did he give me a good chase back to CSS. Group stayed together well though. Marcus and his enthusiasm never in doubt for one minute, deffo improving week on week fella, keep it up.

Cheers all.
