REGULAR SUNDAY CLUB RUNS START FEB 2011

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Just a reminder that that I'll be leading my last Sunday ride for 2 weeks, as I'm off next week with Andy for Etape Act 2 - it's the stage the pros do tomorrow from Issoire to St Flour, if anyone is interested in a preview of our suffering.

So, a tour through the Surey Hills is just what I need. We'll go out through Chipstead and head over to Headley, before dropping down Little Switzerland, up to Ranmore, down to Dorking, up Leith Hill via Coldharbour, down to Ockley and across to Newdigate for coffee at Tanhouse Farm. Then it's back home via Box Hill!! Lovely!

What more could you want before riding home to relax and watch the second longest stage of the Tour this year??

Oh bollox! :x That's the one I've got to do next week!!

See you at CSS at 9:30 tomorrow!! :D

Good luck next week Del and Andy.

[quote]There's very little riding on the flat, just frequently steep ups and downs. At almost 1600m, the Pas de Peyrol is the highest road pass in the Massif Central. Following it are the not-insignificant Perthus and Prat de Bouc passes before the road drops irregularly towards Saint-Flour. The finish is uphill too.

Vin Denson says...
"People associate the Alps and Pyrenees with the brutality of the Tour, but days like this are generally much, much harder.

Have fun :D . Should be a good ride though in that bit of France.

[quote="Andrew G"]Good luck next week Del and Andy.

Thanks Mr  . Let's hope Andy and I don't emulate Vino and end up in a ravine, or get wiped off our bikes by France TV car drivers!! That looked a hell of a stage yesterday.

But back to this Sunday's CR. A really good ride today. Andy, Steve, Graham, Kieron, Ben and me were the team that set off from CSS. The ride was as planned out via Chipstead, Walton and Headley Heath, before we picked up Brian Nolan, descending Little Switzerland, practising with his new compact for his coming trip to the Alps.

The 7 of us headed up over Ranmore, back down to Dorking and then up Leith Hill from the Coldharbour side before taking the twisty descent down to Ockley, Then it was nice steady pace back through Capel and Newdigate to Tanhouse Farm, where we had a great mixture of coffee, flapjacks, sausage rolls and (in Andy's case) a small Salmon Frittata banquet!

Kieron and Graham took the more direct route home via the reverse CR route as they were running a little later than planned, while Andy, Steve, Ben and I headed back via Box Hill.

60 miles all told for me, before I got home to gaze at the TV and see what's in store for Andy and I next week.

So, a great final piece of preparation for the Etape, but just as importantly, one of those club rides that just worked well, in great weather and with excellent company.

I'll be off for the next 2 Sundays, but I'm sure that Jon and Amy will sort out the Sunday rides on those weekends.

Hi Del, thanks for the ride, I especially liked the start route, had never gone that way before but I will in future. A lovely ride, great company and nice sized compact group and great route, it's been ages since I was up ranmore and coldharbour - must do more often. Also great coffee ( a proper latte) and pesto and roasted pepper tart at the cafe stop.

A fast ride home with Graham, I made it back just before 2pm but more importantly my wife rang me wondering where I was just as I was reaching the house! Great timing. A total distance of just over 108km and a riding time of 3:55.

Good luck with the etape! Carefull on the bends!

I take it by this you mean you're leading it.
Where to and what time are we meeting?

If its not chucking it down I'll be at CS at 9.30 - planning on getting back early, around 12 so depending on the ride I may quit before you.

Our two 'Sunday VCs' who usually organise the rides are either away (Del) or ill (Amy). I'm sure one of you can come up with something - the weather looks good and a wet Saturday usually means a good turn out on Sunday. have fun.

Only 4 of us out but a brisk and dry 31 miles over Little Switzerland and back via Box Hill with leisurely coffee at Nonna's where the coffee machine had broken!

Well, I did make it out for my own 31 miles (door-to-door) but it wasn't exactly with the other three... I had told them not to wait for me and I got dropped on the ride up the Chipstead Valley on that little lump half way along. It also didn't help that there were some nasty noises coming from under my backside and the nose of the saddle decided to point up...

Rode on until the Kingswood roundabout just in case the other three had stopped before I got the saddle back to a reasonable level, sat behind a couple of riders for a couple of miles before losing contact on a bit of climb on the Boxhill road.

I didn't expect to see Alan and co again but just as I sat down with a large cup of tea, Mr M swung in with a gasp having held off the other two on the Zigzags (their excuse, they were folding up their waterproofs). Managed to hang on to their wheels most of the way back until Kingswood before rejoining them at Nonna's.

I thought I was in luck with the coffee machine broken but my tea was the last thing brought out by a long way....

Had a natter with a neighbour just as I pulled into my road (good to see Maude getting out on her own after a fall - she is in her 70s!) and still got in just before a short, sharp shower - one of the meteorological kind.

Amy that's something that maybe should have been kept to yourself, but could also account for the others dropping you

I generally talk out of mine so I can hear where you are coming from. Yes you did well to hang on on the straight section - I was really trying to drop you

No, I don't think having my saddle tip up helped in keeping up - it made things rather uncomfortable. I only put it like I did to see who would rise to the bait
