Something different. With a borrowed tandem, thanks mate

, I took my Dad out for a spin. We had a test ride last week up to the Beaver World cafe at Tatsfield which was good fun. The only problem was having to do the odd bit of control as my Dad was trying to steer from the back (back seat drivers eh

) but good fun.
This week we went for a bit longer spin out to Cake cafe at Downe. A bit hillier but with the little granny ring / touring gears the climb up from Coney Hall was fine and the one up to Downe fairly easy. It's a big heavy machine and tandems loose all momentum as soon as you arrive at a 0.5% gradient, everything you can try and carry in to it, bang, it's gone in a second, so hills have to be planned for but with the gears available nothing was a problem.
After a delicious piece of coffee and walnut cake we came back through Biggin Hill with a lovely tailwind behind us before dropping back to Coney Hall and then home.
A different couple of Saturday's but really enjoyable ones. My Dad loved it
