Blimey!! brilliant turn out!! Sixteen (or was it seventeen?) out today on the Sunday CR to Lingfield. It helped that Saturday was very wet and many who couldn't face the rain yesterday came out to play today. We did the route that we're going to do next Saturday - it's quite tough - but all good cyclist enjoy a challenge - right?
A big spread in abilities with Ant, Serge and others from the TG pulling things along it was inevitable that, despite our best efforts, the group would snap eventually. We manage to drop one rider - was it Ian? very early on (sorry Ian I didn't realise
![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
); Del, who is riding himself back to fitness after a long break, dropped off and did his own thing. Then Sam of all people started to suffer. I had to drop back to help my son (what good father wouldn't?
![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
), we kept getting back on only to drop off again.. Eventually we gave up the chase and I (who was meant to be leading the ride
![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
) had to trust that the rest of the group could navigate the cafe - fortunately, the route is, dare i say, quite intuitive and SteveF had done his homework (nice one, Steve) and they were all there when we eventually arrived about half hour later.
Why so long? Well, after the snap a small grupetto formed - Amy, Sam and me and we picked up Andy, Alan and the Scottish bloke (whose name escapes me) who couldn't keep up with the main bunch, just after Smallfields. We were riding steadily when - sods law when your least need it - Alan punctured!!

The Scotsman couldn't wait and pushed on but - solidarity in action - we waited and watched a master class in tube replacement.
The cafe is very nice and plenty big enough. good coffee and a nice Danish pastry and we were off again. Alan decided to head up the A23 but Amy, Andy, Sam, Chris (who decided to ride back with us - her first time out for 3 months she kept with the fast boys all the way but wanted a more relaxed ride home) and I rode along Gatton Bottom, up Markedge and along Chipstead High Road to Nonas getting there about 12.45. Quick coffee - quick chat with NickW after his ride to Brighton, Lucy AP walked in - very pleased with her 1.51 in the Brighton half marathon - fantastic!! we said good bye to Amy and Sam, Andy and I rode back to Redhill via Chipstead High Road.
Home eventually by 2.00 - 80kms on the clock. Thanks everyone - another excellent morning's riding. Let's do it again sometime, like er, next Saturday!
