CLUB RUN SAT 29th JAN 2011 - RUN LIST

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

That was a gruesome ride today, went with the A group and didn't feel too good from the start. The pace up the Reigate steps was a bit lively, thankfully the lights were red at Reigate so I managed to catch back up with Mark Bayliss (who trumped my 'I am doing the Ballbuster ' with 'I am doing Marathon des Sables).

Into the lanes and I was feeling a bit better and then the legs seemed to just turn off, what had actually happened was that I had a slow puncture and looking back I could see my backwheel was now running a flat. Unfortunately the group was long gone up the road so I was on my own. I had a horrible piece of glass wedged into the tyre and with very cold hands it was really hard to get it shifted. A few groups went by. Then pumping up the tyre and taking off the pump it kept unscrewing the stupid valve top each time and letting all the air out. Thankfully Marcus saved my butt by coming along and pumping up my tyre with his non screw pump. By this time I was freezing, my hands were painfully cold. I got going and caught up with Monty's group and had to go past to go a bit faster to try and warm myself up. Got into Partridge lane and I had to stop to take off my gloves and rub some life back into my hands as I was in agony.

Got going again after the group had gone past me, managed to catch them up just before the alternative Charlwood sprint sign. A quick coffee and then home. Have to admit really suffered with the cold today and it took the edge off the ride. Skiing gloves will be out next week.

Cheers

Marek....

Set off with the B's and as usual got passed somewhere between Newdigate and Rusper by the A's . Trundled to the DG last by some margin where Paul H graciously gave me 30 seconds to catch my breath before he called the B's to assemble and start the T&O.
The pace of the B's was quite reasonable and we held out until Ilfield Road before the A's caught us. As we turned off the DG some ditsy blonde decided to pull out infront of Andy W with me a few yards behind . The pace was still quite high so the anchors had to be applied to avoid hitting the side of the car and with fifteen or so riders behind me there could have been a bit of carnage . One or two shouts of profanities towards the driver sent her on her way . Not from me mind - I was too busy blowing botty bubbles .
No further mishaps and a good ride all round.
By the time I got served in the cafe, the only chair available was a rocking chair which I sat in pushing myself gently backwards and forwards . I quite liked it so I might buy one.

Much as I like the ride down to the pine cafe it was really good to go elseware and being a bit more hilly it was good training. I can feel the old legs coming back to life already. Well done everyone it was a really good ride.

Another large TG A/B turnout and at this rate there will more TG riders than anybody else.

A rare sprint win from me. A combination of Keith going too early and the strong headwind helped.

The discipline may need working on in the TG A but judging how popular it seems to be, we must be doing something right. I enjoyed it anyway.

It's really fantastic the way this has taken off. How many rode with the TG today?

* CR report from the Sydney branch *

06:45am start  , 60km loop in beautiful sunshine and lots and lots of climbing  . Aussie Robyn and myself keeping the ACC flag flying down under.

(No point with a lengthy description of the route as you won’t know the roads and probably don’t care anyway  )

Keep warm folks

The first time out for me for a damn longtime...too long if yesterdays pityfull performane was anything to go by. I learnt a hard lesson yesterday.....drinking too much Polish beer on a Thursay and Friday night is no substitue for actually getting out on yer bike and as part of a training programme isnt, as I found out, very effective
See yo'all next week.

In the interest of fairness - she wasn't blonde. Gave her a good long accusing stare as we rode across the r'bout.

JonC's alternative was a great ride; always nice to go exploring a bit, and with pleasant company too. However, I was rather poorly dressed for the occasion and consequently didn't warm up until I left Beckenham Odean at about 11pm last night. Having been encouraged to turn up in club kit - only have the summer short-sleeved top with optional sleeves - and despite adding a thin t-shirt and a base layer, I must confess that even my overweight mass suffered in the cold. Of course my wife, being the clever one in this marraige, rightful observed that I could have worn my wind/ waterproof top with me and just taken it off for the photo. I wished she'd caught me before I grabbed the drink from the fridge (yes, I said fridge; as I say my wife is the clever one) and left the house in the morning. Thanks again Jon et al.

[quote="Jon C C on a Bianchi"][quote="RachelB"] I was saying to Joyce this morning, "I hope he takes us to Brighton this Summer still", :D :D hint hint Jon....

Hi Rachel - what a bummer - we've all had days like that - comes with the territory - but it doesn't make it any better. I'll see if JohnCz will do an EXTRA slow J4F especially for you. :D

Don't worry - Captain's Coastals - are happening: Brighton and I hope other seaside destinations. You can revisit the scene of your epic 50 mile ride with broken elbow - remember that? It's when you were 'ard!

He won't,, -- Enjoyable JCz, hates going XXX slowly, -- that is why Im getting nagged all the time, :( :( Tim may get his arm twisted :D

Birghton..??---97ml Johnno,( remember the contusion over those round trips ) - "Get it Right" Iv got the photos to prove it!
