New Year's Eve Pub Ride.

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Okay, all sorted and the cross bike (my winter bike) is now sporting road tyres. Andrew, I agree the cross tyres are a slog to get up hills. Him in doors says its good winter training!

[quote]Personally I'd change them, but if I were you I'd get Jamie to do it

Thanks for the suggestion  But I moved the ironing board to one side, took off my marigolds, and whilst puffing pastry, I managed to do the job myself :P

See you in the morning, I'll be getting up early to check for pinch punctures (then it will be . . . "Jamie, Help"!)

Agreed, Marco. It was a good ride. I know we weren't busting a gut but it felt like I was riding a bit better though my legs were starting to burn on the hills and I felt I had little or no strength to push it... At least I wasn't the slowest - there were still a few behind me. And I don't think Sline's Oak is that bad...

Marco, I'm not sure that being even a distant relative of Ian's is a good thing

Thanks to Andrew for organising the ride :D

See you all next year

Just defrosting...

Yup a great ride with great company :D I hadn't lost as much fitness as I had first thought I had, though I guess I will be stiff as a board tomorrow. It was a shame we couldn't all sit together at the White bear but I guess that was down to the time of year, The Hoggoblin went down a treat :D myself and Steve W shot off at the end, we weren't being rude, we needed to get to GB's before it closed (shut at 3pm), I won't be out tomorrow as I will be down the Den t watch the mighty Millwall, I wish a Happy new year to you all and safe riding for 2011

as a supporter of the Mighty Crystal Palace I have to say have fun but I hope the start to the coming year isn't all you hope it will be!!!

Come on you Eagles!!!

Cheers

PS My prediction: Palace take early lead, cruising to a comfortable win and then concede two late goals (one of which is a penalty) to throw away the points!!

Cheers guys. Thanks for the company and well done  for organising the ride and the beer.

I decided to take out the MTB with marathon plus tyres fitted this morning without snapping a single tyre lever. :)
Glad I left the road bike behind as it was pretty mucky in the lanes.
Plenty good climbs packed into a 36 mile ride on familiar roads.

Got to the pub a little later than I would have liked but was soon tucking into some very nice grub.

Left the pub and headed down laymans with Ian & Connor "don't mess with me" putting together a three man T&O.
Good to see you on a road bike Marco.

Happy New Year!

To add to what others have already said, a good ride today - helped blow off some of the Christmas cobwebs. Thanks again to Andrew for organising and leading it; glad you were well enough. Apologies for bolting a pint and dashing off; had the builders coming around. Cheers all, and nice to meet a few more faces. Have a great new year all.

Glad you all enjoyed it. Normally have about 8 or so out for this one so was something of a surprise to find we had a group of 18 today!

A mixed bag of abilities but being a social ride we all waited at the tops of the hills, yes there were a few but I like to chuck them in on this ride as it gives people who don't know the area a chance to see something new and try the hills without fear of being dropped and left behind. Can make it a bit stop start with bigger numbers but you just chat at the top of the hills :) .

Unfortunately Mark was suffering on the hills at the end, bonking I think, but safely got to the pub to top up the tank. Agree Amy, Slines Oak isn't that bad but I tend to give a warning for it as it's the first hill proper on the ride and is steep enough and long enough that if you don't know it people often go off too hard and blow up before the top. I wanted them to make it to the pub without hitting me  .

A couple of punctures delayed us getting to the pub which combined with the larger numbers meant we couldn't take over a corner for ourselves so we spread out in to 4 groups and liberally sprinkled the White Bear with lycra. :D

At the White Bear found my Dad sitting comfortably with a pint so joined him with my own. Game pie, a Hobgoblin and a Harvey's and down hill to home, for me. Quickly eating for you Ed as you grabbed someone elses lunch  .

You were going well today Marco, good to see you straddling Chaz again, too nice a bike to keep at home.
