REGULAR SUNDAY CLUB RUNS START FEB 2011

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

[quote="jon avery"]Well done to Jon (and amy?) for getting this together

Not me this time - I think Jon did the route planning on this with Del as back up. I just came out as support.

Ok folks.

Sunday CR number 3 this weekend. Weather looking cold, but may stay dry!

This Sunday's is a variation on Jon's Lingfield ride. Plan is as follows:

Meet at CSS for a 9:30 departure. Ride about 72kms. Should be back at CSS by 13:00.

From Css. down the A23 to Merstham (nice traditional start!), drop down School HIll through South Merstham and up over the A25 at Cormongers Lane. Drop down through South Nutfield, down to Outwood, past the Post Mill, drop down to Horne, Blindley Heath, turn towards Lingfield, then Haxted MIll to Edenbridge.

South through Edenbridge, then turn back to Lingfield via Marsh Green and Dormansland. Carry on back via Newchapel and Smallfield and back up to South Nutfield for a coffee stop at Priory Farm. Depending on time and how we feel, return to CSS via Merstham and A23, or more hilly route via Bletchingley, Chaldon and Farthing Downs.

I think we had 20 out last Sunday, so let's see if we can match or beat that!

See you there.

Del Cobb will lead the ride this Sunday :D :D . Details are:

Start at CSS.

To Chipstead via Portnalls Road, through Chipstead on High Road, turn into White Hill through Mugswell and carry on to A217 at Lower Kingswood.

Short distance on A217, then turn for Walton on the Hill. Through Walton via Ebbisham Lane to Headley, descend via Little Switzerland to Burford Bridge, Boxhill.

Either down to Deepdene Roundabout and through Dorking to Coldharbour Lane (optional loop via Westhumble, Ranmore and descend to Dorking instead). Climb through Coldharbour to Leith Hill, Descend to Ockley, across A29 and A24 towards Capel, on to Newdigate and short detour to Taphouse Farm for coffee!

Then reverse club run back to CSS.

Without Westhumble and Ranmore loop, 69.5 kms. Adding loop increases to around 76kms. Suggest we check and confirm on the day.

Leave about 9:30 and aim to be back at CSS by 13:00. Should be ok with shorter route and probably ok with longer one.

Sounds like a great route! :D Be there or be square!

Sounds like an excellent route. If Cap'n Jon will let me off Saturday duty then I'd certainly be up for this (3rd weekend in a row up Leith but it's nice).

Also, there's something for Tom waiting at Corridori which I need to sort out on Saturday...

Absolutely. My knowledge of the roads isn't as good as some but I can normally cover up getting lost and make it look deliberate :D

Taphouse? You mean, Tanhouse! Hmmm, I like to go there when it's a little warmer... wonder what Rusper Golf Course is like for tea and coffee - just a bit further up the road from Tanhouse...

The golf course is probably a bit more exclusive and perhaps not so welcoming to people in cycling clothes, although you may be able to argue that your 3/4s are just tight plus fours.

If you want somewhere warmer then pop around the corner to Henfold Lakes, or pubwise there's the Six Bells in Newdigate and The Seven Stars and The Plough in Leigh all on the way home. May be able to get your pud and custard option  in the pubs but I feel a good pint of beer would accompany it better than a cup of tea or coffee :D . Perhaps a Hepworth's if you want to keep things local as they're a Horsham brewery - Iron Horse is a personal favourite and the Pullman is also rather nice if you want something a bit lighter.

The CTC use the golf course - it's listed on their cafe stops. Mind you, I notice people riding round in Tanhouse cycling tops

Sorry, but I can't be converted to being a beer drinker. Henfold Lakes should be open this time.... though a hot pud and custard does have its attraction...

Anyway, it's Del's ride so I'll leave it up to him :D

Perhaps beer for the gentlemen and a glass of warming red for the ladies then :) .

Henfold was open last week when I rode past, but I'd trust a CTC cafe list re the golf course, that one may be more enlightened, they may even allow women to play at the same time as the men.

Yes, I did mean Tanhouse. Confusing it with a friend of mine called Taphouse for some reason! I'm pretty sure he's not in a CTC handbook. :D

I had thought of Henfold, but have never been in there. I've been to Rusper Golf Club (oddly to play golf), but never used the cafe there.

Let's see what the weather is like on Sunday. Tanhouse does good cake and savoury stuff, but I agree it need to be warm enough. We can move to one of the others if the weather isn't too good.

It's also known as Tanhurst...

Henfold's OK - the drive is a bit rough to get to it but it's rideable and the food is more greasy spoon than cakes and things. But it also sells alcohol

I'm afraid that I'm not a red wine drinker either - so maybe a sherry for me instead

Unfortunately, I won't be out tomorrow. Felt quite ill today, which is why I climbed off the back of the 17s and took a direct route to Charlwood and then pootled back with Alex and a couple of others, so probably best not to have another frustrating ride and rest till next week :(

Oh and I am really peeved with Corridori... I'm sure the work they did on my bike is perfect.... but they threw out my ACC bar ends - and it looks like they even peeled one of them off because there is no way else it could've come off :x (I made them dig the bar ends out of the bin.)
