REGULAR SUNDAY CLUB RUNS START FEB 2011

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

TT was cancelled due to cones on the course. That can't be helped but I was particularly annoyed as I had it as a target race. It was also cancelled at late notice, could have been done on Friday but wasn't until Saturday evening. As it was a big race for me and I wanted everything to be just right I was booked in to a B&B near the HQ to save an early departure for a 1hr30 drive. The first I heard of the cancellation was thanks to George calling me (signal was bad so phone wasn't picking up emails) to let me know and try and catch me before I'd left. I'd just checked in to the B&B so ended up having a targeted race cancelled and a wasted 3 hours driving.

[quote="Del"]Nick and Ilya took the last Cheese Straws at Peaslake and they were the two people ahead of me in the queue.

Good ride and even better company. Del, thanks for planning the ride and Cheese Straws are on me next time we cycle by that place.

Oh bah! I felt rubbish at the end of last week. Head felt like it was lined with lead and just tired and wobbly... and the feeling continued over the weekend, finally stopping about 6 o'clock last night...
Next weekend - oh heck, it's my mother's 75th birthday, better be at hers then... Doubt my brothers will be :x

As it's the first Captain's Coastal this year on Saturday, Sunday's ride will be shorter, but with some pleasant hills as ever!

Meet CSS at 9:30. Out via Farthing Down to Chaldon, Caterham, Wapses Lodge, Slines New Road up to the Limpsfield Road, turn for Westerham, Crockham Hill, Hurst Green, Broadham Green, Tilburstow Hill, Bletchingley and back to Fannys Farm at Merstham via White Hill, Spring Bottom Lane and Rockshaw Road.

Should be about 32 miles. See you there!

As a couple of people asked me today, I'm not leading a Sunday CR tomorrow, as I'm riding in the ACC Sportive! :D

I'm planning a route for next Sunday. If the weather looks good, I may go for a coastal ride, possibly towards Battle/Rye or maybe Shoreham.

Any views on either option or alternative welcome.

Looks like a showery day. Forecast suggests the earlier part of the day will be better, so I'm going to shorten the ride this week. I'll check the forecast again tomorrow.

9:30 meet at CSS and head off into the Surrey Hills around Box, Ranmore and Leith Hills. May take the route up from Ockley that Mr  put into the Sportive last week, which was an excellent climb!

I'll aim for about 50 miles, so back at CSS around 13:00 or a little after.

Well, four brave ( ) souls met at CSS today. Not including McTaffy who must have realised the wisdom of not trying out a new bike even on a 50 mile bike ride - or maybe just didn't want it to get wet

It was a showery day - one permanent one - and I think Del was hoping there wouldn't be anyone but Lucy AP and I were there waiting for him. Andy did start with us too but after some pretty horrible noises from his bike decided to head back home and rectify the problem by getting a new sprocket to go with the new chain...

Didn't quite do the 50 miles promised by Del but I got home with 42 miles anyway and Lucy was pleased to announce that her nuts were still dry just before she turned off to ride up Shepherds Hill to her home

We'd got as far as Henfold Lakes which was a more attractive option than Tanhouse as you could actually sit inside and it was almost warm even without the fire on. You should've seen the size of the cake she and Del had there... I only had a sausage and egg sandwich :D

Well done all of you. I've just cycled into Redhill to get some bits and pieces - horrible out there and my nuts are soaked!

Good ride out this morning with Del and Amy - shame Andy had to turn back, but that bike didn't sound happy! Nice route, and good tea and cake stop (thanks Del). Bit wet, nice weather for the Henfold lake ducks. We were out just long enough for a good leg spin (still recovering from triathlon on saturday), but as Amy said not long enough for my back pocket walNUTS to get wet

Back to TT ing and the 4am alarm call next sunday . . .

I set the alarm but forgot to switch in on - doh.

I have the wet weather gear so rain wouldn't matter.

So please explain why its not a good idea to cycle 50 miles on a new bike.

Only if it's the first time you've sat on it. It's best to just go for a few miles around the block to check it's all set up correctly and everything is in the right position. All depends on how good you are at building up a bike, or who did it for you.

Thank you, jnr.

I've just put my saddle up half a centimeter and moved it slightly forward and my legs are telling me all about the new position after doing the club run and yesterday's shortish ride. I raised the saddle because as I get stronger and more able to push, I find I'm pushing myself out of the saddle and have to keep repositioning myself back on the saddle. But it should help and already seems better even if I can feel it in my legs.

Oh yeah, never put the saddle up by too much at a time - you can seriously damage something (and I'm not just talking from the bloke's point of view...)

Saddle adjusted, was slightly high and its not there that's awkward its more the knees locking when clipped in. Seems good now. Have no idea about moving saddle forward or back though, easy to do but what affect does it have? Maybe get advice on that on Saturday. Can't do next Sunday due to BHF L2B.

No, only there's a problem when you slide off the front of the saddle and hit the cross bar - knees, muscles and ligaments are more likely to be damaged by the wrong saddle height.

Thanks for the warning about the BHF ride - it passes my flat but then turns right just after and I can escape (Del, for a Sunday ride, remember to avoid the BHF route....).

I can't!

I'm doing the bloody thing. It's what got me back into riding a bike.

Started doing it about 14/15 years ago and have kept on riding it and raising money with a team that still rides it every year.

It's like an irritating habit that I can't get rid of!!

To make it more "fun", Andy and I now ride up to Clapham from Reigate, do the L2B, eat an unhealthy amount of fish and chips with families who come down to meet us and then ride home via Devils Dyke. We regard it as a surreal training session for the Etape!

Somebody else will have to lead the Sunday ride this week.
