Club Run 9th Oct - I will be mostly...

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Club Run 9th Oct - I will be mostly...

Postby Andrew G » Tue Oct 05, 2010 1:01 pm

This Saturday I'm going to be heading out on a different route which it would be nice if some folk wanted to join me on.

I'll say it's a 18s rider type ride but It'll be relaxed without dropping anyone. The route has a few climbs but nothing too bad. I'm hoping the forecast clearer weather towards the end of the week holds as I plan on going down the fantastic lanes I found the other week (don't worry it'll be without the cyclo-cross section) and a couple more afterwards. The lanes are narrow, some twisty, liable to have some bits of tree debris on them and one is a bit loose surface to start with. The only reason for mentioning that is so that if you come then ride suitable wheels and tyres, don't bring carbon rims and silk tubs :D . They are some great lanes for riding though.

I'll work out the distance for those that like to know later but it'll be fairly similar to a normal CR in distance and time, i.e. you should be home for 1ish.

The cafe stop will be late so bring a snack for the road. It'll be right towards the end of the ride. After the laney lanes we'll go up White Lane as I should really go up it once since last year before doing the Bec HC on Sunday, then we just scoot down to the cafe at Tatsfield Reptile Zoo which is a couple of minutes from White Lane and does cheap nice tea and bacon sarnies. If time is tight for people then it's very easy to just ride back along the ridge to Warlingham and home in a few miles and I can point you the way.

Good we'll be an uber legit group then :D .

Usual CSS start but I'll ask if we can go off as one of the first groups to get on our way so if you're coming please be there for 9.10 or we might have gone.

Distance info (approx.): 60k to the cafe stop, 20k from cafe to GBs. Never far from Croydon if you get a call on the bat phone and have to get back for an emergency, vast majority of the ride is North of the A25.

I can't be trusted otherwise  .

Plenty of room Dan, group size is only limited by what is sensible (say 12 so it can stay together and flow). Very quiet roads apart from the little bit through Chaldon.

I am going to have to give riding a miss this weekend :( .

I have started commuting so still getting some miles in but a mild re-occurance of achilies tendonitis and some impending DIY / Baby projects mean I will not be out this weekend - or possabily any weekend for the next 18 years!!!

Enjoy

May have been me but probably my old steel steed.

I also spotted you ... twice. Yesterday at the mini roundabout in Thornton Heath :o . Today Just by the Vauxhall one way system. I almost followed you into your office...

Us at he cafe at the Reptile Zoo. I waited so long for my coffee i started drinking the tom sauce.

Anyway, Great ride, Andrew, thanks fro leading it and thanks everyone for an agreeable morning ride in the mists of rural England. :D

Nine of us - Andrew, me, Sam, Le Nick (not in photo as had to cut his ride short), Nick, Tom, Dan, Steve, and Richard - ventured forth from Coulsdon South. Can't tell you the route but went out over Ridge Way, Clarks Lane towards Knockholt, Brasted and back along Pilgrims way.

Lots of climbing (one short bit was 25%! ) which culminated in a recce of White Lane (not that hard as long as you ride up it very, very slowly). my favourite bits (apart from all the climbs, which I loved) were the 'slightly un-made road' Andrew took as along (in reality a severely pot-holed mud track which gave us all a laugh) and tha bacon sandwich at the cafe - very tasty and only £1.50! :D

80kms door to door. Low average speed 22.5 kms but Bleeding Knackered nonetheless!!!

Cheers!!
