CR 16-10-10

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

A few observations from today's CR.

:D Despite it being a cold day, it was good to see so many out.
 We passed a group (Redhill CC, I think) all wearing "Tanhouse Farm Shop" jerseys. Perhaps we should get some "Pine Cafe, Charlwood" jerseys printed up.
    8) Matt was going very strongly in the TG today.
 I'm not fully over the lurgy I got this week. Down on pace and peak HR.
 Perhaps I should have told Sylv I wasn't contesting the sprint - see above. He sat on my wheel waiting for me to go all out for the sign, and missed out when I didn't.
 Dan, please write to Santa and ask him for some new shorts. Yours are starting to wear just a little thin.
 Just seeing Kate's goosebumpy arms made me feel cold on the return ride. Brrrr.

First ride with the 19s today. Yes, should've manned up before now. Didn't fall off, didn't get dropped, didn't win the sprint. Nice ride though.

The Pine Cafe has no pies.

Four of us headed off from CSS to hopefully set a new Box Hill record.

A nice (if cold) ride out through Headley and Little Switzerland. Quiet roads, few chickens, a small cow, some horses and a few birds.

We approached the foot of Box Hill. And we're off! After an initial blur of speed (approx 7 mph) we settled into a more steady 6 mph. The bunch stayed together for most of the ascent. Rachel declared she was going to drop back a little. We were most un Contador and slowed a little to keep Rachel with us. Probably nudging 5 mph....Then it happened. With about half a mile to go Rachel turned up the wick and shot three yards off the front blasting out a mega 7 mph. We couldn't catch her and she crowned the top of the hill first. What a sandbagger!  New record for slowest victory sprint 8)

We met Lucy at the top of the hill, she was suffering early onstage hypothermia having done the Banstead 5k a little earlier. So we set off and with the extra person in tow the peloton really came alive and I think (though I had no speedo) we might've hit maybe 15 mph at one point on our way back to Walton. Once there I was stupid enough to set up outside the caff and we had to huddle round our coffees, hot chocolates etc to keep warm. Rachel's bacon sarnie looked good, Marky Mark went for a jacket potato, prawns and salad. Neil, lemon cake, Lucy - some kinda flapjack thingie and I went for Rudolf's Reward (thanks Rachel - very kind of you  ).

Replenished we headed off into a cold headwind. On the run into Coulsdon we got a bit crazy and managed to overtake an older lady who was blatting along the pavement on her electric whizzer thingie. Marky Mark was sure she gave us the finger as we passed her on the line. Fair enough like, I'd have been pi55ed too to lose a sprint like that.

Lucy turned for home and the rest of us booted on towards Purley and beyond. Bloody good fun, thanks folks.

I'm not around next two weeks but will do Andrew's Part 1 on Nov 6 - albeit at a slower pace. See ya.

I'm glad somebody else has mentioned this. When I was on Dan's wheel last Saturday it may well have been his not far short of bare buttocks that distracted me into losing concentration .

Cold, Cold, Cold, Fantastic, Managed to keep all of my kit on all day, That's a first.

I would like to Thank ACC John, ( who I do not recall or deny ever meeting ) but he kindly agreead to pump up my spongy tryes early this morning at Nonnas, with his Excellent "Pocket Rocket" :D - Very Kind, It was great to see all the Boys and Girls again at CSS on such a nice morning, with such a good turnout and, as described by Snoop, we had a fantastic ride up to Box Hill, great Company, and of course pace, just the medicine I needed, photos to follow,

All I really need now is for Millwall to win their match, and that will be the icing on the cake of what was a perfect day! :D .

I think his shorts can be subjected to a great deal of pressure at times  omg I just had the most awful image... Anyway he could buy, or get given, those Santini shorts that seem to come pre-worn (ie practically see through  )

Interesting little ride down with Kate and co. Initial problems were eventually smoothed out and we kept a nice steady pace with fairly even turns on the front. Those Tuesday evenings must be paying off as I kept getting in trouble for going off too fast. Mr Malarkey said something about the old boys could no longer cope with sudden accelerations - something then happened later on in the ride that made that remark come back and haunt him

Quick cafe stop and then back on the bike - managed to get past the guy in white shorts and fortunately managed to stay ahead for the rest of the ride back (I think) until the regroup outside Redhill, even after dying on the climb over the golf course. Set off with the rest but soon got dropped again, though it wasn't helpful that my keys bounced out of one of the rear pockets on my jacket (think I'm going to have to do something about those pockets on that jacket :x ) at the junction with the road from Gatton - and were run over by a f*********** 4x4. I think they did swerve but they still just clipped my keys: forturnately the keys are still working though the little light is now prone to come on and stay on and needs a bit of persuasion to turn off again.

Struggled up the little lump out of Coulsdon and back home with out further incident except for the odd idiot in cars. The worst driver though was the one at the roundabout just after CSS on my way there in the morning who only didn't knock me off my bike because I saw the writing on the wall and managed to ease up as she crossed into my line and over the lane markers - to go exactly the same way as me. I had even stuck my arm out right in front of her to indicate that I would be taking the right exit  It was pretty close...

Wondered why you didn't take off after Matt when he went, I was waiting for you to go as well  Surprised Sylv didn't get on my wheel. I left it a bit late to chase Matt down, I was flat out and all out of gears and missed catching him on the line my a matter of inches.

I was on wheel-sucking duty this week with a race on Sunday and had picked my man :D

Good move and win from Matt who was flying though, see what a new bike does to you!
