CR 6/11

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Don't forget to get to CSS earlier than usual if you plan on joining Phil and "the boy" for his slower ride to watch the Ballbuster, or me for a steady 18s for a quick shufty at the Ballbuster then the Brockham bonfire in daylight, before going on to the Pine Cafe to meet others for the ride home.

8.45am sharp departure from CSS for both rides...details here.

8:45? OK maybe more like 9:05. But prompt. Boy needs to have his bran flakes.

Well, that was nice. Sorry to the two we dropped - I blame Roy. He's unstoppable.

Tom enjoyed himself although he was starting to feel it on the climb up to Walton. Maybe we should've gone the flat route. A cake stop sorted him out for the last couple of miles back. Nice cafe.

Saw a couple of agreeables in action on the Ballbuster. Far too much running.

Only two joined me, Dave and Jon, which was a pity. People ask for variety and something different and then...

Anyway the three of us met Sylv on Chipstead Valley who was on his cross bike (don't know what he did to upset it) who was on his way to take pictures of the sweating. We rode down Box a little bit and stood to offer support to the Agreeables, now on the bike leg. Saw Marek, Lucy, and Christine in that order and gave them a big shout. I was pleased to note the looks of pain on their faces showing they were racing hard, unlike a lot who seemed to have spent a lot of money to ride around having a chat. We didn't see Nigel but the SLH tops he and Christine were racing in were more tricky to spot than ACC. Sorry if we missed you when you came passed if you had your head down.

We then dropped down and through Brockham to see things well on their way and I fell over sideways in front of everyone. Old cleats which stick a bit and didn't get my foot out in time, must change them as they've been on their last legs for ages.

We carried on and cut through the Partridge shortcut to get to the cafe in time to see others. Said hello to Joyce and bought my dinner ticket.

There was a lot of faffing outside the cafe and discussion of who was going home which way, so Dave, Jon and I set off again and had a nice ride home. Thanks for the company chaps.

7pm at CSS this evening if you want to ride to the Brockham Bonfire. It will be a slow social ride open to 15s.

He wasn't the only one there, Phil! For a 10-year-old Tom is shaping up to be a real bikerider. Think he should win the kids' event he's riding tomorrow at the Toyota Centre. :D

That route you led us through in 'Little Switzerland' was excellent, especially in the welcome unseasonal weather. I enjoyed watching the Ballbusters, too (what do they call the lady rider/runners in it?). Even made me feel a bit nostalgic for my past running days.

The route out through Chipstead Valley deserves to be the more standard one, rather than the boring, trafficy A23. Much quieter and prettier. There's more chance of variation after Kingswood too, either out to the usual SW-of-Reigate lanes, or around Walton-Tadworth-Headley, or to Box Hill and Ranmore.

Cheers for the encouragement, I was not on form on the running today, a pulled calf muscle last weekend put a bit of a downer on my race today as basically I had to tap out the run instead of actually running it. Ah well, there is alway next March. I will post something on the running post about my recent issues for all those interested in the running stuff. But once again was great to get the support on Box Hill, lots of people cheering from ACC which on the bike helped me to get past a few people.

Cheers

Marek.....

The Ballbuster, great race yesterday, I really enjoyed it :D :D (yes, weird, I know)!!
Great atmosphere, the weather was kind to us, and not too much motorist trouble!

The crowd support was amazing! Nice to see Andrew, Dave and Jon giving me encouragement on the climb, saw Phil and his boy for a "thumbs up", Sylv and his camera, and Paul H to name a few. I felt like I was climbing Alpe d'Huez when passing the group of SLH's (several of whom are also ACC) on the zig zags. Matt C's vuvuzela could be heard for miles! Respect to Rob Harrison for going out before the race with a brush to sweep the corners   Thanks to the guy in the ACC top who cycled past me on my final last bend of the run shouting "Come on Addiscombe"! It all really helped :D (sorry if I missed anyone!) :D

Didn't see you Marek, but I think I was a few miles behind you most of the time, shame your race didn't go as well as you'd hoped.

Hope to see you guys in a couple of weeks for a "normal" club run!

Lucy, typing tired again - I hope it makes sense!!

In that order:

Matt (in blue) used the VV to blow up someone's punctured tire, but was a little out of breath after that so passed it on to Beckie

Well done to all. ACC male runners are falling like flies :?
