New Year, new rides

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

New Year, new rides

Postby Amy » Sun Dec 12, 2010 5:10 pm

Any one want to try some new roads, new destinations?

I have a number of places to aim for - other cafes, pubs... Please feel free to suggest your own routes and places :D

I would say that these rides will be mostly social as we'll have to wait for the slowest - probably me... and stay together. But I hope that people will pick up on these new routes and then take out different speed groups - eternally optimistic, me...

Could start in the New Year, weather dependent... how about the first Saturday after the club dinner?

It would be nice to change the TG route for something new.Change is as good as a rest.

Go for it, Rob. Keith thought about riding out to local circuits and then having practice races/checking out the circuit for race tactics.

For training rides you need set routes with a minimum of fuss and to know the route - all the other groups can experiment a bit more with different routes.

Talking of different TG routes - how about the A* road south of Dorking and beyond (not the road off to the right at Beare Green RAB, that's narrow, busy and fast) and either turning off at the Capel RAB to Rusper (part of a circuit) and the cafe or continue on and round via Horsham.

*I'm not very good with road numbers

Its not practicle to change the TG route as riders will get dropped and then wont know where they are going.

The club survey also indicates that the majority are happy with the way things are.

Correct me anyone if I'm wrong, but the general consensus amongst those in the TG is that the route is immaterial. Other than the point Paul H makes which is why it needs to remain as is. Choice (variety), of course, does come in on the route home.

Agree. TG is not about tourism.
Would you ride round Hillingdon circuit for over an hour? In a race, yes. Otherwise, not a chance.

Other groups - fine

I thought the purpose of the the TG was T so keeping to the same route makes it easier to judge one's improvement over time? Otherwise it just becomes a faster CR.
It is one of my goals for 2011 - not much use if one week I hang on til Monty's cafe and the next I get dropped at the cattle grid over Farthing Downs or Purley Tesco

Would you lot bog off - this isn't about the TG anyway - it's about trying to introduce some alternative rides to the ACC or the ACC to some alternative rides. After all, Pete's group has grown as people have discovered the joy of riding on different roads.

Yes, Charlwood is popular, yes, it does work but there's lots of other places out there. And I do appreciate that the TG route needs to be a familiar route - I do understand the concept. But this isn't really for the TG unless they're having an easy day. Other speed groups can (could) be organised once routes/destinations become known. So let's not argue whether we need alternative routes or not and let's just get on with trying to do something. My only suggestion being that you might have a couple of routes to ring the changes.

Rob W, you would be quite welcome to join us but I fear we will rather slow for you. You could always ride in a high gear the whole way, push those who are slower up hills or turn round, go back down the hill and ride back up again :D

What I ment perhaps riding out to places like Bletchingly,Newchapel or even Rusper etc.I'm not trying to step on any toes here or get a tourism ride going by any means.Just chucking an idea in.
