CLUB RUN - Christmas Day - RUN LIST

Postby Jon C C on a Bianchi » Tue Dec 21, 2010 5:03 pm

Hi All

Anyone thinking of doing this?

Looking at the forecast I'm not really sure why I'm bothering...!

But...here goes, fingers cross for a sudden thaw  . I'm taking it that the pine coffin won't be open so a quick non stop there and back (CSS by 12.00) on the road bikes is planned. As a back up plan I've dug one of my sons' MTBs out of the shed. It sort of fits me so I've got some options should I have to leave the Bianchi at home. :D

Cheers

Captain Jon :D

My wife's written you a note to say,
That Tim's not allowed out to play, :(
Because you see it's Christmas Day
And he may not go that far away,
No! In the kitchen he must stay.

No CR for me tomorrow - just been out and I don't like the look of the roads. I'll go for a short ride on the MTB. Hopefully see you all soon!

Ouch!!! well I rode for an hour this morning - on one of my son's halfords MTBs - mostly quiet lanes and bridle paths - mostly Ok but absolutely treacherous in places. All going well - enjoying being out in the country and on the bike. Lost it on a particularly icey bit of road and came a cropper. Not sure what happened.  Luckily no major damage - myself or the bike - a couple of bruises. Straightened handle bars and seat. :D Set off but within 20 yds nearly came off again.

Realised I didn't have my phone with me - thought if i fall and hurt myself in the middle of no where I'm probably going to die of hyperthermia - so decided that, bottle gone, I'd had enough and headed for home. kept to the roads which were OK.

Glad i did it but also relieved to get back in one piece!

anyone else get out?

I went out today on the road bike, reached CSS and there was only Brian waiting there, we waited until 9:30 and no one turned up surprisingly. Brian went back home and I decided to head alone to boxhill for a quick ride there and back. Took the boxhill reverse club run route to there and back. The roads were ok a little of ice patches on the side of the road but nothing much, until I reached boxhill's veiwing point, the road was all icy, and so there I stopped, had a quick break while enjoying the view of the snowy/misty mountains and then headed back home. Overall it was a good ride

I was out yesterday in London, for half an hour, fabulous quiet roads, saw a couple of cyclist out, I was really toying with the idea, as the roads still have black & white ice patches, and I have skinny wheels and a spongy front tyre, well I must say after eating one of the best Christmas Dinners in history, I was wondering how I was gonna get home, so I headed back just on sunset and could still see the road for ice, most of the roads are clear now, so managed to keep a speed of 14ml, I can certainly breath better in this cold weather, It was wonderful to be out and it think I will make this an annual event, got home safe and sound, sorry to hear about your fall Jon, those Halfords MTBS's with big tyres normally hold the road well, maybe you were trying to make it do things it canny do :D

Happy Christmas, :D to all de Boy'z and Gal's, hope you all got everything you wished for!!

thanks, Rachel - no just trying to ride it in a straight line on sheet ice. It was so slippery I could hardly stand. Absolutely INSANE!!
