Hi Jon. I take it a 17/18 could keep up. Do you know roughly what time you'd be back as CSS (rough guess)?
Cheers,

Well it is 12.00am I am already home and I have never felt so bad, :( :( :( But it was good to see all the Boys and Girls at CSS @9.00 this morning, and Joyce at E.Croydon, I left with the 15s & 16s combined, and after making it to and up A23 ( with Montys help - drag up ) - and Crossing the A23 saw the group disappear down the tunnel, sadly I just could not hold on, I was already out of breath with frozen FEET & HANDS, I was surprised, as I am usually better in the cold, so it was a quick return to the St, but boy that little bit back alone felt like I was getting Ice chucked down my throat, I just do not know what happened to me today, the lungs gave out very early on :o :o , this usually only happens when I get to the lanes, terrible, sorry Boys and Girls for dropping out, A late gent passing who tried to introduce himself to me, called Neil, not Neil AS, just got waved on, I could not even talk  I hope he caught you guys??

BTW can anyone enlighten me on where Monty appeared from :?: I do not recall seeing him at the Station, what with all the glamour shots etc,, Oh.......... ( Jon C looked like he had done his make up and nails perfectly, - delectable ) ,.....but, but, ( back to Monty ) the first I saw of him, he was getting dressed,( crash helmet gloves etc), by the side of the road,.. BUT GREAT :D to see you Monty, I was saying to Joyce this morning, "I hope he takes us to Brighton this Summer still", :D :D hint hint Jon....

Well That was that, I have missed out on my bacon sandwich or scrambled eggs on toast, Renatas are the best in the UK, AND so it is to next week J4F :D :D
Hope everyone had fun, updates please.

R...........Hope the late Jo Jo likes these variations, He used to like bits about the A23  Its back to bed for me,, should neve have got out 8) 8)

Headed of with the B group today, it was well organized and we kept a steady speed all the way through. Overall good workout :D

Off to eat some more!

P.S. Ant the chain looked better in real life  (not that I don't like your photos).

Cheers Ghaleb. You were going well today. B training group went well, some good efforts by all and yet again a good turn out.

I'm off for a lay down now as I'm in shock at being beaten by Paul H in the sprint.....
Was a very odd sprint, seemed to happen in slow motion and my gear selection was wrong......I blame that stupid new chain.

Started out with the 17's on the fixie, got dropped on the steps, road solo after deciding not to wait for the 15/16's at the common before freezing my hands off helping Marek pump his tyre up following a flat.

Too cold for a fast cadence today. Could only manage 22-23mph spinning 115-120 whilst the group where faster. Not enough calling out for obstacles and a little disorganised initially.

I think I'll try a proper bike next week.

Managed to get down to the cafe with all of the small 18s group I started with. It was quite a fast 18 - which I blame Mike for.

Headwind was interesting on the way back. Managed to sit at the back of groups most of the way until ran out of legs on the Merstham drag. Shared some turns with Ben until he mysteriously disappeared. Shattered by the time I got back. And cold.

As an encore, I've just taken Tom out for a quick 18 miles. I took the fixie for a change of pace but then he decided he wanted to go up Box Hill ...

Good day. Now time to defrost.

Amy and I led a really cool (like freezing, man! ) bunch of nine - Martin, Dave, Guy, Neil, Phil, Robbie, John, + us - on an alternative to Lingfield. A recce of our planned, exciting, and spectacular ALTERNATIVE SATURDAY coming up on the 26th Feb (details to follow - watch this space!!!). Stopped for refreshment at Joyce's Cafe in Lingfield - nice but a bit twee - and too small for what we need. Returned via Rockshaw, Gatton Bottom, Fanny's, and Chipstead High Road. Nona's by just after 12.30.

MapMyRide said the route was 53kms with 360m of climb - the normal CR is 63kms with approximately 250m. So 6 miles shorter but with over 100m more climbing. So a good work out - tougher than the usual CR route. Unless someone clocked it more accurately I'll have to live with my estimate that we rode it at a respectable average 15MPH.

Amy, Martin, Dave and myself stopped at Nonas. Two Americanos and Coffee and walnut cake pour moi. Good to see EX-captain Monty. Nice chat and a good fun.

thanks everyone - great ride - very Agreeable!

My door to door 78 kms @ 24kph.

Hi Rachel - what a bummer - we've all had days like that - comes with the territory - but it doesn't make it any better. I'll see if JohnCz will do an EXTRA slow J4F especially for you. :D

Don't worry - Captain's Coastals - are happening: Brighton and I hope other seaside destinations. You can revisit the scene of your epic 50 mile ride with broken elbow - remember that? It's when you were 'ard!

Thanks to Jon for giving me a call out to ask for help with the Addiscombe 25 Promotion in April. Please do take a look at the thread in the General section here.

With it being very cold I didn't want to stop once I'd started and fancied a "personal pace" (anti-social ride  ), i.e. a decent effort/pace ride to keep warm and try and wrestle some life in to my legs but not necessarily ramping it up with a fast group. Joined Phil's group to the steps to loosen my legs up a bit and then went straight on to Redhill, then left and along the undulating A25 to Westerham.

Hard work pushing in to what seemed like a constant head or cross wind today, never seemed to turn to be with it for more than 5 minutes :? , but felt good so kept pushing at a constant "make the legs ache" pace. Just after Westerham for some silly reason I turned left on to Beggars Lane to take me to Westerham Hill. I've never riden up this before as I'm normally in the lanes in that area, blimey it's a killer (5-6mph in 39/26  ). Really rather steep and a constant steep gradient all the way up, and it's a fair bit of up to be climbed. Jumps straight in towards the top of the list of "nasty hills" list. Harder than Toy's and Chalkpit for my money, longer and although not as steep as the steepest bit of Chalpit it's a much longer spell in the grovel zone. Not exactly perfect weather for an even comparison but it could be a balmy July day and it wouldn't get much easier.

Once at the top it was back down low on the bars and a blast through Biggin Hill past the spitfires, they do look damn good, and head for home. Main roads today but not busy, only the bit of A25 from the A22 roundabout to Limpsfield Chart has any real volume of traffic and that's not a lot. Wide safe road the A25 from Redhill to Westerham with lots of rolls and kick ups, a good training road for us testing types.

Despite the temperature making inhilations a bit harsh and the bottles cold I stayed nice and warm. Winter boots, thermal base & mid layers, and a soft shell jersey and an old school style Prendas winter hat kept me nice a warm.

Yes it's a little bit cold - it's January :D

Didn't stop Matt going bare-arms at some point.

I was flagging by the end - toasted panini and cappucino hit the spot.

What's this WE and US, Jon  I just sat mostly at the back - or in the case of the hills, OFF the back

A nice little route which as Jon says, was shorter than the normal cr but with a couple more lumps thrown in - but hey! we are in the North Downs  Good recce for the ALTERNATIVE SATURDAY but now I'm thinking about it, Jon, how about not stopping at Lingfield, just do a loop and come out of Jackass Lane and then you are perfectly set up for Nags Hall Garden Centre or ?Orchards at the other GC between Godstone and Bletchingley?

Or if you reverse the route end up at Priory Farm near Nutfield or there's cafe in Nutfield itself. Think Priory Farm could deal better with large numbers but people will need a bit more money though hopefully better food and coffee

Perhaps we need an evening somewhere with a map or two and a decent computer (that rules out mine)?

Back to the ride, I do feel like I'm getting stronger each week though I always struggle on the first hill while I take my usual 20 miles or so to really warm up. Thanks, guys, for waiting now and again - and for letting me wimp out of being on the front  Didn't really mind the cold today but let's just say I noticed some bits had got really cold when I got home - I mean, REALLY cold

It was nice to get out on some lanes I don't normally see and I look forward to getting out on them and others more in the future :D
