Hey Rogan sorry missed the TG. Looked back at CSS and you guys were gone and 200m up the road- no chance to catch up. Still, I can always speak to YB tomorrow at the race.

Anyway, we had a nice little ride. Legs were fresh by Box Hill so I went fairly hard- new PB by 1 second :D

Great CR today. Went with the 18s and we averaged 19.4, which was nice. Chatting to Paul and Stu at the cafe, turned out they averaged 24 in the TG  . Perhaps we should start a C TG? Or I'll just have to up my game:D

Big thanks to John CZ for looking after newcomer Liz in the 15s. Her first time riding in a group so the encouragement and general looking after was much appreciated.

And a big cheers mate to Robbie for pretty much accusing her, as loudly and publicly as possible, of having his mate's stolen bike. Here's a clue big guy - if your mate's bike was stolen a year ago and someone says they've owned their's for two, having bought it off a Cat 1 Dynamo who raced on it for several years prior to that, you don't have to be Stephen Hawking to figure it's a different bike.

But like I said, pm me your mate's serial number if you still haven't figured that one out and I'll check.

Meanwhile I'll make sure to point every owner of a stolen red and black Cervelo I see on bikeradar your way.

Hey Sylve, congrats on the new PB up Box Hill! What is the new time? Are you still 4th (I think) on the Kingston Wheelers list??

We had a great ride this morning. Matt was doing most of the graft up-front shared by Yanto and, in part, others and the pace was pretty good. Yanto remarked that it was a strong pace for a training ride and he added that he really liked the way the group (principally TG ‘B’ from Dorking onwards) worked together and communicated so well throughout the ride.

No idea how Matt does that sort of ride and then puts on his running shoes for a sprint…?! I try not to use emoticons but Matt you get one of these

Good luck to all those racing tomorrow!

We had a cracking club run out to Knowle Park today. Up and over Farthing Down, through Chaldon and through Woldingham School. Up Ganger's Hill (ouch) then along the Pilgrim's Way. Passing vineyards, hedgerows and all with hardly any traffic. We went through Brasted and climbed up to Ide Hill before making our way to the café in Knowle Park. I'd not been there before - what a beautiful place. I scoffed a tuna roll and had a ginger beer then the rest of the group went on and I headed for Tonbridge station. I was knackered! Train to Purley then up the hill and home. Here's the route - pretty testing in places.

When I was at CSS this morning I was standing next to a VC who was chatting to someone I think was new. She (the person who I think was new) was asking about the route and the VC said, as he pointed down the road, and I quote "the first part of the ride is nasty, very very nasty". I think what he said is spot on, and it's an interesting way for a person taking responsibility for other riders to describe and acknowledge the route. I can't understand why the club is so attached to one of the ugliest, most dangerous stretches of road around here when so many viable alternatives exist. Takes all sorts I guess  .

Today I've enjoyed a beautiful ride on some roads I knew and some I didn't. We regrouped regularly (thanks for waiting folks) and it was just great fun. And apart from when I dipped out to Tonbridge (my choice - not the way the ride went), there wasn't a main road in sight.

My legs are sore and I'm :D :D from ear to ear.

Cheers - Snoop

May I also add belated congrats to Sylv for coming first in the 4-lap enduro at Gorrick last Bank Holiday Sunday. Needless to say he lapped me (just the once) and had finished and was polishing his medal as i scarfed down my last gel before commencing my final lap.

How many accidents have there been on the Club run on the A23? How does this compare to the number of accidents on country roads?

In the 3 plus years I've been doing the club runs I've never had an issue with this junction, had more close shaves in the lanes that have been poop pants scary and once or twice been close to needing the black arm bands at CSS.

Have to agree with Paul H. Even when I occasionally commute into work I use the A23 rather than risk getting doored or otherwise hurt on a side road where drivers pay less attention.

Did we average 24mph today in the TG? My computer gives me an average speed of 21.8mph

I was in the B TG but we were caught by the A's pretty early on (in Reigate) and then continued on as one big group with a few dropping of or taking a different route. It was a pretty steady pace and I didnt do much work in the front today, was happy to just hang on. Overall good training and might see some of you on the CG !

Thanks Ghaleb, that's cheered me up no end. 21.8 seems muchmore achievable for an old fart like me! :D

I rode out with the 17 mphers today - well, someone has to!

Nice bunch - good fun - we were a well oiled machine by the time we got to the cafe.

Picked up a few riders that had been spat out of the 18 mphers - and after reading Dom's post I can't think why!  :D

Brian had a bit a scare - on a fixy - back wheel locked up when his chain came off doing about 35 mph!!!  Fortunately he is a great bike handler and controlled his 200 metre skid without crashing! Phew!

We got to cafe at 17.7 mph average - I'm good at this aren't I? :D

Stu's computer overreads by 1.5mph - its been like that for years since he took it off the MTB.

started out with the 18's which was a tad tooooooo fast. Need to keep it at 18 or at least below 19 guys. Not everyone can average 19.5 when expecting to do 18.

Nice slower paced ride with the 17's which confirmed my thoughts that I should be in the proper 18's.

Great group ride with riders off all abilities on the way back, great to ride with those you don't usually.

A23? I really really really really really really really don't see any issues and don't think it needs debating. I shouldn't even mention it. For what it is worth I certainly don't think it is dangerous.

I have encountered more close scrapes in and around the lanes from cars impatient to get by the narrow roads or coming around a bend and not expecting to see cyclist.

Lets just all celebrate the fact that we all like cycling albeit riding different types of bikes over different terrain.

ACC with the club run, the alternative, J4f and mountain biking seem to offer something for everyone.

Let's ride our bikes with love. 8)
