I was thinking of visiting the Olympic test event on mtb, aiming for the Headley area. It's a bit early though, aiming to get there for around 10 would mean leaving Wallington around 8-8.30. The race goes through twice around 10.30 to 11.30.

Hopefully, the crowds will be at Box Hill side of the circuit. but bring a bike lock just in case we need to leave the bikes against a tree for a half hour or so.

from the organisers website:
Spectators can cycle to any part of the race route that is open to traffic but cannot cycle on the course during road closures at any time. Given likely crowd numbers along certain areas of the route, the use of a bicycle may be impractical and should be considered carefully. Restrictions will be in place around the managed spectator areas.

Not sure about Sunday plans yet, but does anyone know if there are any extra restrictions taking bikes on trains on Sunday - either to get from central London to Wallington for this ride, or possibly to go to Dorking or Gomshall to intercept the race directly?

Looks like a few of us will be going on a longer than usual (approx 4 hours) ride starting at Coulsdon South Station on Saturday 13th at 10am. All welcome, as always.

I might also join on Sunday, just need to clarify the bikes on trains situation.

Taz,
bring on the iphone vs. android mountain bike app competition on Saturday.

For that very special day, I had a handlebar holder for my Samsung couriered for the ultimate Backcountry Navigator 5.0 experience!

Bring it on....

Good luck on Saturday, I won't be able to make it, work again.

Colin, I seem to remember somewhere seeing that Bikes were banned trains to from Dorking on Sunday . You'd probably be OK though to Wallington especially if the train finishes in Sutton.

Just to confirm this is definitely on for tomorrow (Sat). The weather forecast is cloudy but dry and not much wind, so it should be a nice ride.

Aodan, sorry but this is not looking likely as I can't see myself getting going that early on Sunday.

Doesn't look too bad to me now and the forecast is only the odd shower, so I'm still MTBing. I'll stick around at Coulsdon South until the 1009 arrival from town. Happy to shorten the route as we go if the weather turns out worse than forecast.
