Well, it didn?t go to plan.
A good evening for racing and a strong field led to a fast pace from the off. The three amigos kept their noses out of the wind and their powder dry, early doors. When Ajay finally put the hammer down, Jack and myself followed and we had a gap. It didn?t last long, however, so we sat up and bided our time for the next opportunity. It never came??
Though all three of us kept at the pointy end of the group and went away independently at various times, events were to conspire against us. First Jack broke his pedal, showing the power of the man, and had to retire. Then a crash ahead forced me off the road and onto the grass, and, though I time trialled for three laps to try to get back on, I finally called it a day 4 laps from the end. Ajay finished strongly in the pack.
If we persevere with this plan I?m sure at some point it will pay off. Be good if all three of us can get to 3rd Cat to support the existing ?3s? in their races and we can have a real team to utilise.
Personally, I happy that I?m getting involved with the racing again (3rd race back) and am always trying to be active in the front third of the group, even if only for training purposes.
The evening ended with myself and Ajay getting a lift back to south London in the back of a children?s furniture truck by a couple of Paragon guys (Jack and Charlie). Despite our fears, we didn?t end up getting fly-tipped in the wilds of Kent, but were dropped off with a smile in West Norwood??here?s to good relations with our brothers in the South!
David.
