ACC Racing Plans For 2008

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Fair enough, I do see your point...

[quote="Grahame"]Two reasons:

1 I'm from Yorkshire :wink: and £60 is £60 is 1/2 a refurbished carburretor for the Citroen.

.
What a load of old nonsense, I bet there's loads of things you'd spend £60 on cummulatively or in one go and wouldn't even think about it :lol: [quote]I know I will get just as obsessed about training and racing as I did about mountainbike racing in the early 90s when it took over from everything. Friends, career, girlfriend, family - none of it mattered as much as what I was eating, where and when the next training ride or race was, how fast I could get up the local hill (the nearest thing back then to a power meter). I can't do it by halves.
All good laudable stuff which nobody would disagree with. However? There's fire in your belly and you know it :twisted: . Your life style with work and family doesn't need to be compromised. You just need to approach thing differently this time.

Seeing as you've got a slightly obsessive nature how about having that controlled by someone else. What do I mean? Well putting together a realistic plan with an adviser/coach (yes I'll help free of charge :wink: ) why not look at what time you could realistically dedicate to racing.

1. You can make the club run most Sats so thats the bunch training, endurance and group stuff sorted. Can you do one/two weekly 30-45 min sessions on turbo/road or even via commuting? If yes, thats more than enough to be competitive in most one hour crits.

2. You could perhaps set a goal and say I'm gonna race 10 times only per year. Let the wife, adviser and people know and stick to that plan - perhaps once or twice a month between April and Aug.

3. A realistic goal - make 3rd cat.

Some elite racers only do 10 hours a week. Perhaps that means they cannot really be competitive in long Premier Calender races, but hey they can still go out there and have fun and do well in short crits/races

You've already got pretty good neuromuscular power (sprinting), you've got lots of endurance, you possibly need some engine building sessions. Don't put out that fire yet Grahame :twisted:
