ACC Roadies: Season So Far

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

ACC Roadies: Season So Far

Postby Toks » Wed Jun 04, 2008 12:21 pm

Well guys I think we need to to pull our collective fingers out (especially me). ACC is looking a little bit TT heavy - which is fine. But last season ACC Roadies went some way towards redressing the balance; this year however things have gone a bit flat. In 2nd cats we've got George Perched on 19points and closest to him is Stu on 12 I think. In the 3rds Marek has 12 and then there's some 2's, 3's and a few 1's (me  ). Our saving grace this year has been Michelle with the only ACC RR win. So common guys there's still 4-5 months to go lets get ACC moving up the Regional Club Rankings. Oh and what's going in with the Hillingdon 4th cat Posse. Ajay, Ajay where are you?

yea, I know what you mean Toks, but Hal is going well, Wal had an excellent start to his racing and Steve B is also going well. Me, just like you I need to either get my act together or just quit racing! I haven't trained in the last 3 weeks, except for a few crit races and commuting, (no turbo sessions or any type of specific training session, no long weekend cycles either), this is not enough to be competitive. So last night I decided to try and be a bit more focussed. I have entered the SERRL race at Edenbridge at end of June, so going to try and get back into training for this. I may also pick a later race to focus on after that to give me more motivation.

Why, I thought you liked the tough races. Hence the Wally Gimber adventure

Depend how you look at it in a way Toks. A lot of people have dipped a toe this year so number are almost certainly higher than for a while with a number of new racers this year - Dan, Matt, Mark, Phil, Wal, Brian, and no doubt others I've forgotten. Not too many Stu's about (brilliant from day one) so it'll take longer for that talent to develop. I'm only ever doing some Palace and aren't good enough to go points grabbing so will almost certainly stay a 4th cat. I'm only doing it for fun though, and I suppose it depends on others motivations too - purely enjoyment, or specific training to progress through the cats.

As Kieran says, Hal's flying, Steve's going well, yourself and Kieran will be there or thereabouts at Palace most weeks.

No Paul, too many very good "old duffers" :D .

i was noticing it too toks.

i havent done anywhere near the amount of races i had done by this time last year. but ive had a bit of a shaky start to the season with endless punctures and illness. ive also been a bit bad at entering races and being organised. but im back on track, and got some form on the way. im going to try and do all the stage races on offer locally. and im going to get my butt in order and get my entries off in time!

I think I have 19 points, not sure where the extra 2 come from as I got 17 for the Womens Regional Open, 1st and only race as a 3rd cat. Still not complaining 8) .

Will not race now for a while till after La Marmotte, and it will be the same for Keith too I suspect.

Will start hammering away hopefully after the 1st week in July, Inshallah and all that. Hope to pick up some more points then.

The Wally Gimber was not fun - I was just a pack monkey so got a bit bored.

Well, so far I have entered a fair few and really enjoyed them. Have been doing the 2nd cat races and really enjoyable in a hard kinda way. Have not raced recently due to work and also I am doing the Marmotte so want to get the distance and a few hills in the bag. Will do a bit more when I get back, shame have only done one handicap though this season as I really enjoy those, but with work and the weather have only managed the South Nutfield one.

Anyway Toks, where have you been on the SERRL races, those are the races where you really have to work hard for your points, whether racing against the 2nds or 3rds.

Cheers

Marek.....
