Where to start?

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Where to start?

Postby tobyk » Mon Jun 30, 2008 6:20 pm

Hello!

After many years with the Addiscombe, I'm embarrassed to say I've never turned a wheel in a race (other than Sportives) nor do I have any idea of what to enter or how.

I'd like to have a stab at racing so my questions are:

What specific races should I enter? I'm based in West London but can travel. I'm also guessing that a specific 4th Cat race would be better for newbie like me?
How to I enter the races? (a search of the Internet has left me more confused than when I started)

Yours cluelessly

toby- west london is perfect for newbie racing as you cant be far from hillingdon. :D

to race there just turn up on the line and sign on, no need to pre enter.

before that though you need to get a racing licence from british cycling- http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/si ... joinbc.asp

wait for that to arrive, and keep an eye on the events calender for 4th cat races near you.

Check the USEFUL INFO sticky at the top of the General section, plenty of links to previous posts with helpful answers and also links to BC, Surrey League, SERRL.

Cheers.

Fantastic! Thanks everyone. My first race is next week at Hillingdon. I can't wait! Just back from 10 days doing the Paris-Nice (which was a little on the hilly side) so hoping to have some cheeky form...

Cheers
