Are you Racing this weekend?: March 3rd and 4th

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Hey MR TOK's yes Im gonna kick off this season on Sunday racing at Chertsey.

Never been there before so looking forward to a new circuit.

Just got back from the Elmers end chain gang tonight, I got B*ll*cked for droping an Elite and 1st cat up the big hill, they said I should have been pulling on the front more on the way down :D

Any one else coming on Sunday :?:

Kick off this season??? You've already won a race and moved up to 3rd cat :D

Weather permitting I'm going to have a go in the 4th cat race, I think Stu is as well. So with that in mind I'm going to be doing a rain dance on Saturday night to stop my legs getting ripped off :)

As a "beginners" race I was hoping this might be a more gentle introduction, but reading the reports from last week's race I'm not so sure now.

Are people driving or going by train? From what Kieran said the train seems okay and allows for a warm up 6 miles to the circuit.
Poss:
East Croydon 8:00 - Arrives at Woking 8:45 with a change at Clapham Junction.
Also 8:10 arriving at 9:02

I think I will give my legs a much needed rest after this weekend's ski marathon (still can't walk completely properly), and wait for a race that doesn't include Elites and 1st cat for a change :D .

Although Toks, how does this work - do 3rd cats just pick their choice of race?

George you animal  . We'll have to find a nick name for you.[quote]Although Toks, how does this work - do 3rd cats just pick their choice of race?
Yeah Sylv, its quite good position to be in as a 3rd cat. If your looking to move to 2nd cat its a no brainer: 3/4 race everytime...however some people just wanna race with the fast boys and ain't that bothered or indeed wanna get up to speed and then go points hunting later on in the season :D [quote]im going to be there this sunday, but im still fealing a little unfit !!
its a 4th cat race stu, you'll be fine. be patient, sneaky and don't burn ya matches until its time to light the bonfire

on a serious not, i will hopfully start on the 18th march now, near chester. however, emailed the organiser yesterday, he says its full already. but to turn up and hope as he cant recall ever having to turn a rider away. so fingers crossed on that one. want a race under my belt before rusper!

George dropped an Elite and 1st cat up a hill.
That's a bit scary, really.
So it's fair to say that you're a bit fitter than last year then , George?

Just turn up Stu.
I may be a no show as the weather's looking decidedly iffy for Sunday and I don't want my first race to be in the rain with it's associated risks of being taken out in a pile-up.

Will decide tonight as I'll take it easy on the CR if racing.

Andrew, if it is raining go and race, take it from me it will be easier. The pace will be slower as eveyone will be taking it easy. I tend to find that wet races are actually a lot safer as people tend to overcompensate at our level.

Cheers

1st race.

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Mon Mar 05, 2007 6:28 pm

Quick post..... wet and very windy conditions for the 4th cat race at Chertsey. We did 4 fastish training laps and felt good. Was doing ok in the proper race untill someone punctured just as he turned into the straight from the fast decent right in front of me on the second lap, he did well to stay upright, but I slowed a tad to avoid him and before I knew it was off the back and from then on was fighting a losing battle trying to get back on. On the plus side I absolutely loved it, must admit I'd felt nervous all week just thinking about the race and was somehow half expecting to hate it; learnt a bit and its definately motivated me to train harder which is basically to develope more speed and power, so that when I end up off the back I can get back on or better still not end up off the back in the first place!
