SCCU 50

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Yep got mine too. Am I right in thinking the course is 2 laps of the 25 course except on the second lap you do a leg off to the left of the Farthing Interchange straight away and miss out the Tollgate leg a bit later?

I'll be seeing you very soon after the start Dominic, try not to lap me  .

Yes, the first lap is exactly like the 25, then you carry on up the slip road past the 25 finish, turn left at the roundabout, straight on at the next one (by the HQ), turn at the next one, then do a 2nd lap of the 25 except you don't go up Tollgate on the 2nd lap.

This is my first race as a veteran. What does the STD of 1.06 do for me and what am I trying to achieve?

It's meant to be 2.06 I think (hope!!) which is the time a vet of your age should do the event in. Any faster and you get a plus standard time. Get a good enough one of these and win a stuffed toy tiger - or something. Usually vets on std prizes are won by older folks - don't get yer hopes up feller!! Mind you - you are PDQ so who knows, nudge a couple of the giffers off as you go by and.........

If you check the start sheet there's prizes for vets in category (40-49 up to 70+ or similar). Basically a 49 year old will get a bigger "standard" than you at 40. Works like a handicap and the vet with the best scratch time less vets standard time wins the stuffed tiger, or a tenner. 8)

Comps like this with age bands will work more in your favour than ones where there is just a vets handicap where the prize tends to go to the likes of Woodburn (ex-End to End record holder) who's still clocking quick times but is now in his 70's so has a huge vets "handicap". Harry Featherstone (late 70's or early 80's is another who'll be in the prizes on a standard vets handicap).
