Who's gonna be road racing for ACC this year?

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

That's a shame, there is an element of risk in a all competitive cycling. I actually believe you TT guys are very brave. Even in club TT's I get quite scared racing along with cars coming past you.
By the way Mo how have have you found things when riding with the training group?

Hardly turn up :lol: Although I am tempted to cause some chaos on the reigate steps and the woody section going into rusper this Sat with the TG, using a bit of the old vo2max power hehe :wink: I enjoy/don't mind doing solo rides because it's more 'character building' compared to riding with the group.

Hmmm...so whats your history then? Did you start off riding with 17's like most of us and then become competitive. Surely not every ride you do is a solo mission?

[quote="Toks"]so whats your history then?

Pre July 2011 - could barely manage 2/3 miles on a mtb although I was mainly a swimmer (w= 82kg top heavy)
Jul 11 - watching TDF - thought this is cool, so :idea: let's give cycling a go
Aug 11 - did a few bike exercise sessions at the gym - kinda enjoyed it
Sept 11 - bought cheap road bike - 2 days later rode solo to Brighton, then decided to join ACC, rode with J4F group
Dec 11 - prob in between 20s and TG standard
Mar 12- May 12 - no cycling for 2 months
Jun 12 onwards - tt events
Mar 13 - now 65kg

[quote="Toks"] Surely not every ride you do is a solo mission?

Well, since December 12 it has been, apart from one TG CR early Jan and another 20 mile ride with two agreeables to a redhill time trial in late feb. Personally, I don't mind riding alone because ultimately that's what I'm gonna be doing in a tt, so it's good practice. If I do any threshold/ sweet spot work, I prefer to do it in the tt position on the turbo as oppose to going with the TG guys where I'd be in the standard position. Plus the former trains my core more effectively. I have ( and probably speak for most people on the forum) limited time to train, so I try to make the best use of it, and keeping the training as relevant as possible to tt. And if that means going solo a lot of/all the time, then so be it. If I planned on doing RR, then I would join the TG group more often as those rides would be more useful to me

[quote="Toks"]and then become competitive

I wouldn't say I've become competitive :roll: I just like to see how far I can push myself 8)

Wow I gotta say thats pretty impressive. Going from an 80kg bike plodder to a superlight aerobic powerhouse (~5watts/kg) in less than 18 months. Its a shame we've already lost you to the Darkside. Obviiously the peleton happily chatting in the sun cruising past vineyards wasn't the bit that appealed to you. :lol: When I fisrt started riding Iwas never that keen on riding solo apart from commuting. That defintly changed once I became competitive a year or two later. As you said its more effective for the time crunched cyclist. I gotta say though I do miss riding in a large friendly group - its still the best thing abut cycling to me :D

Didn't quite happen did it Mo despite you sitting at the back of the group all the way to Charlwood. :D

Must confess I did keep the speed high over the steps to stop you launching an attack though :wink:

I bet you went off for a 300 mile ride after you left us though :lol:

Don't get your knickers in a twist, or hooked on your saddle, about it.
