The Royals

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

[quote]Hi
Following an unsatisfactory and somewhat open-ended statement to the London Assembly by LDA's CEO recently, your Eastway Users Group has kept putting pressure on in all kinds of ways. Once we got it rolling BC joined in with us a bit too, I'm happy to report.
Instead of something in March to cover its embarrassment over Hog Hill (we're working closely on that one too - see below) we insisted there was no reason why the LDA couldn't make The Royals available to us straight away.

Thanks in large part to the close and continuing attention of Dee Doocey, London Assembly Member and chair of its Olympics Group, The Royals will be opening very soon. I'll be down there this Saturday with BC on a risk assessment and to decide what's needed to have it going from 17th Nov.
- How fitting that a facility should open almost exactly a year after Eastway closed. (!!!!)
BC will be claiming the credit in a release because the agreement is made between the LDA and BC for the circuit to be operational. Agreements made when the circuit was originally due in March or April, as agreed with EUG at the Planning Inquiry in 2006, should now come good.
We have no idea why the circuit wasn't made available to us as per the legal statement made at that time.
- Still it is there for us now so let's use it.

Would all organisers of events at The Royals - actual or intending - please make contact with me and I'll pass on BC contact details to you for bookings.
I am also particularly keen to gauge the interest of senior riders in a winter series there.

Hog Hill is an interesting issue. It is surprising to learn that work has been begun on the site without a lease having been signed. This means that the clubhouse has not been started and that the groundwork for drainage and utilities hasn't begun either. An opening of the circuit in March is as per a high-up's promise - partial and highly subject to conditions.
Some inappropriate decisions were also made to start preliminary groundwork without the agreed final consultation with the users. There are some mighty tight bends at the foot of descents intended to make the circuit conform to the plan whilst staying out the newt-filled areas (300+ population so far of this rare amphibian). It's probable that EUG would have welcomed the opportunity to relate the plan to the ground. Our last meeting agreed we'd gone as far as we could with a plan that was only on paper and that was based on inaccurate contouring.
Specially convened after sneaky peeks and urgent representations by EUG, there is to be a Hog Hill Design Group meeting on-site at Hog Hill next week. The invitees are those who attended the design meeting in August 2006.
We are bringing it to the attention of the LDA how many events are lost by the delay. Off-road race events will have to be sorted elsewhere unless we can get on to those parts of the site.

So, as you see by this one outcome on The Royals and the latest developments on Hog Hill we are slowly moving from promises to deeds.

Let's go racing! - Anyone for organising?

Michael Humphreys

I'd give racing there a go to see what it was like.
