HELPER INFO FOR ACC ROAD RACE SAT 10/4

Postby Andrew G » Wed Apr 07, 2010 12:31 pm

[Message from Paul as he has limited forum access.]

He is just finishing putting together the helper allocation list for Saturday's Addiscombe road race promotion in Bletchingley, I'll post up those details when I get them but he says positions are flexible on the day so if you really want to stand next to someone in particular then that can probably be catered for.

2nd lead car driver request - If someone is driving to the race and is able to do this then please can you contact Paul. It's not a difficult job and involves driving round the course in front of the race without holding it up or knocking any of the racers off or running over the marshals.
If you can do this please email Paul the following to: paul dot tunnell at landg dot com
- Your Name
- Your DOB
- BC number
- Car Reg No
- Car make and model

Please be at the HQ at 12:30pm

This is when the village hall opens and will allow time to sort out all that is required, yellow bibs, flags, where to go etc. The race starts at 1:30pm.
The HQ is the village hall in Bletchingley which is here. If you click on satellite view you can see it to the left of the auctioneers, it has a fairly large car park behind it with an entry/exit road either side.

The race circuit is this and is a tough one so expect to see a strung out race and lots of pain etched on faces  .

Helpers

11am – Ride to HQ from Charlwood for those going direct from the club run.
12.30pm – HQ opens, race briefing at HQ for all helpers.
1.10pm – Sign on closes and reserves catered for.
1.30pm – Race starts
4.45pm approx – Race finishes.

Info
Places can be swapped on the day as long as it is agreed and all positions are covered.

If anyone is able to swap with Paul H and drive 2nd lead car then it would be appreciated as he currently has a knee injury and keeping it bent for prolonged periods irritates it. If you can then please email Paul T on the email address in the post above, thank you.

I think it's a different finish being used this year Sylv - on the A25 by the HQ I think, not much chance of a bunch sprint in this race  .

I've just been out - beautiful day if a bit windy (weather not me! ) - and ridden the course. Parts of it (along the section going north from outwood) are more like Paris-Roubaix with mega potholes - not nice at all  - there were signs up saying caution the drain grates had been stolen but they all seemed to have been repaired/replaced. It's short notice I know but can Surrey or whoever get a team out and fill some of those holes??

Do you need to have a BC number to do the driving job?

All sorted now thanks Phil.

I was surprised to see an official finish line as being there (although I don't know where along the road it actually is). Presumably it works okay and without a problem or Surrey League wouldn't allocate it a finish line option. Depending where it is you might be okay with bottles as all through the village it is very wide for the extra parking on the left by the pub etc which is way more space than a car takes up, so you could toss and grab without a problem.

That bit of the road has been bad for years at least Jon. The SCCU 21 uses the same course and it didn't seem any worse this year than previously despite the bad winter.

The missing drain covers was the only issue so nice to know they've been replaced, although each hole had a big cone in it so you'd have done well to ride in to it.

We can have some bowls of crisps and nuts out too, to replace those essential salts.
