Blimey I should have known this would degenerate in to a load of pseudo science from the forum doctors  .

I only posted it because I thought the excuse was funny, I was hoping for more comments like Ian's :D .

[quote="Ben"]Agree with what your saying, more me being cynical as to why would he be tested.
How you fairing ?

There are always a certain number of riders called for random controls at pro races.

I'm ok, I got sick the first week I got here, then rode flanders before getting over it completely. So I effectively wasted a month for that, I'm only just starting to go well now. Finished my race Wednesday, 40somethingth from around 90 starters, so not too bad. Have 2 races this weekend so they should bring me round to some more form. Oh, and I even got headbutted on wednesday, racing here is certainly not for the feint hearted!

[quote="Andrew G"][quote]Olympic and world 400m champion LaShawn Merritt failed three successive drugs tests between October and January.

His lawyer Howard Jacobs claimed in a statement that the positive tests were caused by Merritt's "use of an over-the-counter male enhancement product".

At least he was big enough to admit to the positive test, but must have been a big blow for the American's

Much better Mike. I liked Dave's "big enough" one too, hang on that doesn't sound right.

Not as good as LaShawn Merritt, just a dodgy Sweet & Sour or maybe too many prawn crackers ?

The Australian Daily Telegraph reported:

[quote]The 23-year-old American, who faces a two-year ban, said: "To know that I've tested positive as a result of a product that I used for personal reasons is extremely difficult to wrap my hands around".

It takes a lot of balls to buy that stuff over-the-counter.

Would seem Howard Jacobs , is the attorney to go to. If your trying to get a reduction in time served.

But i prefer the excuses. There's loads of top 10 lists.

2. Telling porkies
David Martínez

Spanish discus thrower David Martínez tested positive for nandrolone and decided to blame it on eating infected pork. In an attempt to prove his innocence, the 1992 Olympic finalist went so far as to inject his pet pig with the steroid before slaughtering and eating it.
Alas, it did not save his bacon and no traces of the drug were found in his system after his ‘experiment’. If only he had read this blog before, he’d have learned that this wonder drug nandrolone mysteriously pops up in many places other than infected pigs.

1. If in doubt, blame the wife
Daniel Plaza
When Daniel Plaza crossed the finish line in first place in the 20km walk at the 1992 Olympics, he was celebrated as the first Spanish track & field athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. But within a matter of years, he had become more famous off the back of his positive test.
Plaza claimed that the nandrolone showing up on the positive test wasn’t his and in fact belonged to his wife. But how did it get in his system? Prolonged oral sex with his pregnant wife, of course! The best thing about this is that 10 years later his name was actually cleared of the offence, although he was long retired. But at least he has a fun story to tell his grandchildren…
