Bottom bracket removal

Postby Rob W » Mon Jun 14, 2010 7:26 pm

I have a Veloce bottom bracket to remove. The thing is i can`t seem to get the lock rings to undo.I know that they have to undo in a certain way.It just seems that they have been done up so tight they won`t budge.I have given them a squirt of GT.The tool that Butlers sold me just slips of.Its made buy Park Tools and just does`nt seem to grip it.The splins that it fits into are a bit worn.

Square taper? On veloce etc ones they can be tricky to grip with the tool. Arrows on the BB tell you which way to turn but if it's been on a while then they can be tight, my commuting one was tough.

You want the bike in a proper bike stand to do it easier. Put the tool on and then a sharp whack with a wooden mallet can help free that first bit, after that it's easy.

If you want a hand or use of a stand then give me a shout and pop round on Saturday with your bike.

If it is really properly stuck, then take it to Sigma Sport, the mechanic there Rohan Dubash managed to get mine out of my Pinarello and it was well and truly stuck. He did a great job.

Cheers
