Anyone tried the Gmap site mentioned in Cycling Weekly? It's great for planning / checking out routes. Real easy to use.

i have also found google earth quite good, a link to satelites the world over some down to about 50ft, i can even find my girlfriends house in jamaica, good for checking if they put the roof on yet hehe, its at http://earth.google.com/ still trying to find machu pichu.....

Google Maps is an incredible service (and free!!). I have taken the data from my GPS I carry on my bike (Garmin Forerunner) and overlayed the route we did on Saturday (the 35mile short route) onto its map control (via some javascripting) and this is what you can get...
