ES article last night...

One of the reasons why I don't like commuting in London... the others are lorries, buses, vans, cars, taxis, motorbikes, scooters, mopeds and pedestrians - have I missed anything?

Have to agree with Sean, it is tremendous fun. Whizzing round Elephant and Castle using a van as a shield while attempting to claim a couple more scalps before hitting the logjam of Borough High Street; getting a mini chaingang going with a couple of Dynamos as you hammer it through Streatham and Brixton (of course you lose them at every red light but half the fun is catching them again); building up enough speed so you can freewheel past a pretty girl while striking a match on your rear wheel to light your Marlboro.

The worst but of commuting is the riding and behaviour of other cyclists. Mine's fine up to the Elephant & Castle, from there to the office is a pain.

One of the reasons I don't like the Evening [sub-] Standard. Irresponsible nonsense, and more ammunition for the "No tax, no insurance, no right to be on the road" brigade... Check the comments if you don't believe me.

Evening Fascist - only read it because it's free and something to do on the train home.

Wasn't going to say it's mostly a male idiot pastime...

If you read the SCR rules (which the ES didn't refer to) the first one is "No dangerous riding". That and no crashing red lights. Also SCR is supposed to be secret so boo to the ES for publishing this at all.

Not much action between Tadworth and Croydon. Last time I saw a likely suspect it turned out to be Rob R-E. There was a guy last night on am S-Works Tarmac but I don't think he was really trying. Most of the commuters you see are hi-viz nodders who stare down at their front wheel while carrying on up the inside of left turning lorries.

Commute by bike then you wouldn't have to find something to do on the train

I'm not sure if I do this or not, as I usually try to get into work pretty fast anyway, I don't keep a score, or know the rules/system either (apart from the highway code), maybe others are racing me without me knowing? I do try to have a fast start when the lights go green else you get caught up in a big bunch of very mixed ability cyclists (and throw in the odd motorbike and car too). No drafting either as too dangerous. Anyway it's only a nme given tonormal human nature, even when I go for a run, if I see someone else up ahead I will try to stay with them or catch up, I have to remind myself to keep to my own pace!
