The 89 Tour is always remembered for the final TT but the whole thing was superb with Fignon and Lemond attacking each other throughout and Delgargo attacking both whenever he could to try and get back the time he lost by turning up late for the opening prologue TT. If he'd have been on time it could have been a 3 way battle over seconds as he got to within the time he was late on day 1.

Lemond's tribars helped but Fignon would still have won by not losing quite so much time if he hadn't ridden double discs on a breezy day. Front disc is madness anyway but in those conditions he had to fight his front wheel so much.
