Any car mechanics out there?

Postby Phil H » Tue Feb 14, 2012 9:50 pm

Possibly with knowledge of Ford turbo-diesels?

Google leads me to believe that I have a problem with the injector seals (2003 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi). I have a Haynes manual and a sense of fun but wanted an expert opinion before I start dismantling the engine.

On the other hand, only having one car does mean I cycle to work a lot more.

I've got it running on Thursday. And curiously it seems to be improving. It has a "manual fuel primer pump" (squeezy rubber thing). In the light of day, I found this and realised it squeezed like it was full of air, not fuel. So I tried to use it to pump fuel through and eventually it filled and the car started.

The idle is still a bit lumpy though and I can't help feeling that diesel is either landing on a hot thing or there's an exhaust blow under the bonnet (which I can't see). And then there's the question of why there was air in the low-pressure fuel system.

Allegedly the injector seals are a problem on this engine but look like a pig to replace. That wouldn't explain the air though. Going to see if it keeps going for now and maybe cycle into work more.
