Bikes stolen in Croydon

Postby Bo-Gilly » Fri Feb 24, 2012 6:47 pm

A garage in Croydon was broken into last weekend and 6 very nice bikes were stolen. They were locked up but the cables were cut and some were locked up together with D locks.

Please keep an eye out for them (details in the link below) and if you see anything please email ferrariby40 (at) hotmaildotcom.

Well I'm guessing it wasn't an opportunistic crime - they were very likely aware of what they would find and came equipped with both tools and transport.

It's worth remembering to be careful not to leave garage doors wide open so that passerbyers can note the contents. Or to give too much information on the internet concerning what you own - you might be surprised how easy it can be for someone to track down where someone lives with very little information and the power of google. Which is one of the reasons why some people are reluctant to give their real names on internet forums.

And they are asking " Help us get our bikes back " It is really sad, and what are the chances of getting them back? has anyone ever recovered a stolen bike? :(

Yes it happens, although not often. It does however require keeping an eye out for the them. Theses bikes were stolen to be sold, not because someone happened to need 6 bikes, so presumably they will have to advertise the fact that they are for sale. Obviously it gets much more complicated if they are broken up and sold as parts.

Ebay, Craigslist and Gumtree are good, if obvious, places to check. Particularly look under frames as they could be stripped down and sold in bits. Tell him also to post in the stolen bikes section of bikeradar dot com. Don't post in the regular section - i did that for a mate, figuring it would get more traffic, and the mods deleted it. Not being au fait with moderating forums, or the work that goes into keeping them working etc, i'll keep my opinions of that little bit of editing to myself.

It's supply and demand basically.

Yes, I was lucky to get my stolen bike back. It was stolen from central London though not from home. When I reported the crime I gave frame number to police and they recovered it after two or three weeks.

I don't the owner of the six stolen bikes but I hope they get them back. Good luck guys!

It's Phil, as in Ana's brother (of Ana Nichoola Cyclewear) and their mother, who's name irritantly escapes me. All of whom have ridden with Addiscombe at some time.
