NEW rider!

Postby BigMac » Sun Aug 19, 2012 11:16 pm

Hi guys!

I'm not 'new' to cycling as the title suggests, been cycling since I was a nipper, and road riding for a few years (with a rather unhealthy break in between) and getting back into it now!

Was just after some information really, I'm super interested in becoming a ACC member, (got the jersey and everything! :P), was just wondering what sort of rides are available for a, how shall I say, less active indiviual? Ha. Or should I wait a while until my training has boosted my CV?

I'm also doing the ASDgiant in about two weeks, wondering if anyone has done this, or is doing it this year? I'm only doing the 44 miler, but I think i'll still struggle! Lol.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Big Mac.

Thanks for the reply!

I will certainly check out some of those rides! Attempted two laps at Richmond Park earlier, was near death! haha.

Depends how quick you did them :D

Starting point would be Monty's leisure rides and then we have the "Just for fun" on the 1st Saturday of every month. The next step from that is the 15mph group every Saturday and from then on the world is your lobster.

I too used to ride as a youngster then took a break of a couple of decades to live incredibly unhealthily before coming back to it. The nice thing is that you improve so quickly - in a year I went from being apprehensive about the 54 mile BHF London to Brighton to taking on the long Dragon Ride (120 miles in the Welsh mountains) and then another year to riding a 100 mile time trial at 21mph. If I did some training I reckon I'd improve even more. One day I might try that.

That's ace, Phil!

I managed a sort of 20-30 minute lap time at Richmond, but the hills were killer. Tracked in on the Iphone app Strava, which is wicked!

I'm doing the GSD giant in little under 11 days time. Which is a 44 mile (novice) ride, but there is a 100 miler for the extreme!

Although I struggle to do 20 miles a day, it'll be a bit tough, but it's an experience and a for a good cause!

I will deffo look at these easy rides with ACC, can I just tag along before becoming a member, or should I source a membership first?

Try the JustforFun ride on Saturday 1 September for starters. If I can keep up with them, aged 76, I am sure you can! :D

A Lap is approx 7miles, with some pretty tough climbs.

Okay, thanks guys! I will try and get along to one of these rides! :)
