Night Rider

Postby Andrew G » Wed Sep 27, 2006 10:11 pm

No not KITT and the leather clad one but autumn/winter riding after work.

Did a short ride after work tonight with night falling around me. It was about half main road, half country road and I was lit up like a Christmas tree, but it got me wondering.

I find my turbo rather boring and would prefer to go out on the roads after work, particularly while it's still fairly mild, but wondered if anyone had any recommendations for the best terrain in the dark.

I don't mind riding in traffic but obviously prefer country roads, but being unlit is it wiser to stick to better lit roads even though they contain more cars and therefore entail more dodging people who don't bother to look out for you.

Any advice from more experienced night riders greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew.

I was considering doing the wednesday night hilly rides through this winter - a bit slower obviously, but I reckon if you can't see the hills it'll probably make them easier.

That descent down to the bottom of chalkpits would be a riot in the dark eh?

I find that its too scary on unlit roads, so I prefer to stick to the well lit roads. This does limit things a bit.

A good training ride to do, is based upon a lap around the hills between purley and sanderstead. I rode down there on tuesday, and did 3 laps, then rode back home. Works out at about 25 miles and takes in 6 climbs. I might try an do this every week, in an attempt to improve my strength.

If anyone fancies a regular evening ride, then I would be up for it.

Ta,

Graham.
