Club Run - Sat 14th April

Postby Ray Pepe » Sat Apr 14, 2007 1:48 pm

Small training group today (Kevin, Hal, Polish Andrew and a Chap from TNS).

Felt like a good fast run today but when we got to the cafe my cycling computer was only showing an average speed of 21.1 mph. It was even more depressing to find out that the group behind us had averaged 21.2 mph (it seemed strange how they had'nt caught us, considering both groups had taken the same route).

Got home fairly tired but soon cheered up when I realised my cycling computer had been set for the wrong bike (registered 60 miles instead of 66, the usual distance for an extended dual carriageway and Boxhill run), we were probably averaging closer to 23 mph.

Great ride guys, looking forward to next week

Went with the keep it real 17 group and we did just that (well almost), creeping over the line at the caff with an average of 16.7.

Crackin morning for a bike ride, glad I'm back in the shade with a cool drink. Managed 52.5miles in 3hrs 5mins including box hill.

Chuffed, and knackered. Good to see so many friendly faces out and about, really enjoyed myself.

I reckon if the wind speed is no worse than today the SCCU next weekend will have some quick times.

Right - off to the bookies to back some glue factory dodderer in this afternoon's carnage.

Rockin! Snoop 8)

Cheers mate, think we've got a good turn out planned for next Sunday. I backed Liberthine e/w at 33/1 which came in fifth. Paddy Power were paying quarter odds down to 5th place :D Beer to follow...

A good day out there - lots of posh bikes. Steve's pretty new bike had predictably good performance in the sprint. 18 group was fast and fun with the longer through and off and we were taken a different and pretty route back after Box Hill which added some miles and created interest. I then went out and all being well sold my boat so I guess I am now fully commitTed to only one sport on its many forms. Here are my calculations for those of you that like that sort of thing.

My ride split into 4:
A - home to CS,
B - CS to beginning of T&O,
C - long T&O to C'wood
D - C'wood - home via extra loop

Time
A 15.57
B 1.00.25
C 25.39
D 1.46.51
Tot 3.28.52

Average HR
A 125
B 136
C 140
D 142

Max HR
A 153
B 166
C 166
D 168

KCal
A 163
B 744
D 329
D 1414
Tot 2650

Ascent
A 120
B 820
C 220
D 1740
Tot 2650

Spd Ave
A 17.8
B 20.8
C 21.6
D 17.6

Spd Mx

The training group must have been gutted as we were only cruising! 8)

A nice bright morning brought out loads fo non racers, resting racers and a fair portion of couldn't care lesses!
Bright sunshine brings out the bling and a dazzling display of shiny bikes and new stuff- coupled with a lot of bone white legs

Titanium, carbon and deffo no mudguards were the order of the day.A smattering of colnagos, a coupla sevens, two de rosas and new bike of the day- the Shadows "Ridley"- as yet un-named.
A fine old pace was set up the first col de M23 (tailwind  ) as the "fast 18's left the station.
Alan, Steve and Paul did a fine job keeping the pace up this ensured a very long strung out group of riders all trying to keep to a wheel.
I guess we had about 20 riders in our group but the traffic was light today.

All thru the lanes the pace was rather brisk and not at all like the gentlemens 18 from a few weeks previous. Alan did a massive pull on the front and i tucked in - that really streched everyone out.
We did the long dual carraigeway in two groups so as not to cause any traffic problems but i think everyone was at the coast as it was quiet.

One good thing about riding with newer people is that they dont know where the sprint is so i can now claim my first sprint win  .

Riding the best bike for the first time this year was great- gives you wings.

Avg speed by the time i was home was 21mph, fastest for a while 8)

Sorry, total distance looks more like 71.3 - is that possible? Didn't get home until just before 2 so maybe. I think we might have caught the fast group but we spent some time arranging the through and off.

W got back to Coulsdon in time to note that the coffee club was still in session!

Thanks Ray when you told us the average after the cafe I could not believe it as it felt fast, but on reflection it must have been between 23-24mph as for much of the time I was pushing a 53 x 17. Felt knackered on the way to box hill and back, but a great fun day out :D .
Ps who was on the pearson on the way back to Croydon. Had lots of flash kit ie northwave shoes, etc. Oh and Alan you seem to be flying at the moment.

Whoa its all happening, it must be this good weather. Shall we take bets on who will make Hillingdon this summer: Munnery or Hogan?...PS Are you promising to use paragraphs now everytime you take the Charlwood Sprint, Ian? 8)

There are 2 Pauls on Pearson.

I did zip through Croydon on Saturday about 1:00pm after watching the riders at Cherstey, and have to confirm they are Northwaves. Gave my racing wheels an airing, so maybe did look a bit flash :?:

There is another powerhouse with a Pearson carbon and flash shoes - Chris Kay. I think if you buy a Pearson Carbon Pro you have to sign a disclaimer to say you will only ever ride it if you also look the part.
