Support your local race rider!!

Postby Amy » Mon Aug 18, 2003 10:26 am

I can't believe that out of over 200 members nobody goes out to support Tony Kelly at his races. I rode out to watch the 2nd stage of the Revolutions 5 day race and did manage to get one person from the cafe run to come out with me. I'd planned to go out to watch Gary Dodd as I know his wife through the CTC and I didn't see that the Addies had a rider in the race until Friday evening.

Tony Kelly practically fell on me and Chris after the race - we'd been shouting for him whenever we saw him - and his loyal supporters said that it made a change for some of club members to come and support him! And now I've logged in to the forum I see that he had asked for people to come and help him!! Perhaps Monty or someone could email future requests for help round?

Come on, there must be someone who could get out there tomorrow if not today and give him some moral support!!

Why? Whilst all club members love to see fellow Addy riders doing well in open events up and down the country, it's not down to them to support or help whenever someone thinks they should be. Much better me thinks that they support as many club organised events as possible rather than racing week in, week out under the illusion that these events just 'happen' for the sake of the them alone.

You don't get anything out if you don't put anything in. Some people should equate this to being in a club, rather than just how they're training is going for future races.

Supporting

Postby siwickm » Mon Aug 18, 2003 1:59 pm

I wanted to come and support Tony but the fact of the matter is that firstly most people work during the week, therefore Friday, Monday and Tuesday are out for most I would think. Secondly, most people want to have a ride themselves over the weekend, this weekend being ToSH so a number of us went out then, thirdly some of us have families therefore cannot force them into coming to watch a bike race when you have already spent half the weekend out on your bike anyway.

It all comes down to the fact that this work business gets right in the way of riding and watching bike racing. Bring in a five day weekend I say.

Cheers

Marek...

:x Family, children, mad Mother, Relocating and at the top of the lot working, you name it; they all come in conflict with our bike riding so when you get some time to yourself what do you do? Ride your bike, not go watch someone else do it!

Lets just hope Mr Rude Project doesn't need our help. He seems to have a rather selfish atitude, me, me, me.

It's great having loads of new members, but even better when they start doing well representing the club, not only can we claim to be one of the biggest clubs around, would also be nice to be one of the stroner clubs around. This clearly seems to have missed by Mr RP altogether.

Seems to have chosen his name well.

So how many people/club members did you have stay at your Holiday home last year, expecting them to pay for their food only? Have you wracked up a credit card bill of £560 before 23 people's cheques were cleared in your own personal account? Two cars, 4 bikes, a flat in London and a house in france, I can't imagine that I will need your help, do you?

Stay Cool Everyone!

Postby Tony » Mon Aug 18, 2003 10:20 pm

Folks,

It was great to see some ACC supporters out on Saturday and I know for sure of a couple who are expected tomorrow.

However, let's cool this topic a bit - at least one of the respondents seems to have taken Amy's comments far too personally. We all recognise that we all cycle for fun and everyone has a real life elsewhere. For everyone's info - there's a pretty good team spirit amongst most of the local roadies and you can usually manage to get someone's partner to help with bottles, etc. Ideally, we could keep support of this nature in the ACC family - but if no one is planning to spectate on a particular day, it's no big deal.

P.S. Big up to Keith Knight for m/cycle marshalling. He must be taking time off work to do this as well!

Well said Tony, I was coming out to give you a cheer tomorrow anyway, just couldn't find the time what with the move and all; and before someone tries to pin a 'me, me, me' badge on my head, you'll be welcome to come over to France and stay at my place if you fancy trying your hand in a few races there. I'll see you on the Groombridge/Motts Hill circuit.
