Club run Sat 16th June

Postby jon avery » Sat Jun 16, 2007 6:21 pm

Even though the weather couldn't make its mind up i really enjoyed the club run. I went out with Monty's group and had a trouble free ride to the cafe, which looked half empty, funny what a bit of rain does :lol:Then Monty managed to get everyone to do box hill, Yup thats right everyone!!! Myself and Alex teamed up well and took turns to pull each other to the top. It was then a pleasent ride back home. Off to France next week Uh oh the Paul Tunnell train is coming

The threat of rain certainly kept the numbers down. There was no training group, only 19, 18, 17, 15 groups going out.

There were a couple of showers on the way down but nothing serious enough to get the rain jackets out.

The ride down was uneventful but enjoyable. As Jon sez we were all outside the cafe at Charlwood and the Box Hill contingent starts forming and I had every intention to go back via Reigate but it turned out that I would have been the only one so I jumped ship.

Cracking ride back with discussions of George's time up Box Hill with everybody doing the hill in sub 10 minutes, which sounds a lot but we were all pleased.

Roll on Super John's London to Brighton next week. :D 8) :D 8) :D

My CR was the best in ages, I went out with Major Monty ( He is so regimental with his Rotate calls and Keep tight and so on and rightly so).

I got myself into a postion that I would not take the front until after Lambs Green? but due to a couple of riders darting into the inside I found myself next to my lead out man Phil Nash. We battled the head wind and had a good ride after Partridge, whilst quickly approaching the sprint the likes of Major Monty and Alex P were trying to box me in with some quick calls for a rotate I did get on the inside but when the next call came I got back on the outside just behind another rider but was determined to say there and I did with some strong riding I found myself on the front and tried to the best of my capabilities to wear the pack down and string them out. This worked quite well and the the sprint was full on for quite some time I went past the Gates clocking over34mph all thanks to Alex P pushing me on my right shoulder.

Then came the call for Boxhill............I stood proud and finished at the back of the pack, the climb took 10.54 (sorry Alex wasn't as quick as you thought) the ride back was fast a furious in stages I managed to keep jumping from first group to the second group as I kept reminding myself I have another 18 miles after Coulsdon.

The last 18 miles was good for me as a SOLO ride I managed over 90 miles with a loop I had done in the morning an average speed of 18.3 for the day.

Now the down side.......

I streched when I got home and managed to lounge around for an hour the phone rang I jumped up to answer the DAMN thing a WHACK!!!! Cramp  kids thought it great to see dad writhing in pain the next 20 minutes were agony but hey the small price to pay for a day of FUN.

Good stuff nick, but only 34mph :D

I still remember last year when you led me out going at 37mph around the final bend!

It was good to be out again, there is a special feeling about flying along swoopy lanes on a nice light road bike. Also great to re-aquaint myself with the zig-zags.

Plus with such Agreeable company!

Thanks to Mark, Andrew and Ray for waiting for me when I bit off more than I could chew in the 20mph group!

Andrew, I was feeling in my legs, lungs and all other parts of my body, this was into a strong headwind and loads of other outside factors..(please fill in with Bulls**T)........ it was enough to win and no more:) not bad for a 15stone fuel tank carry sex machine:)
