On my way out to a race on Tuesday evening I saw a prime example of rubbish cycle path design on the outskirts of Harlow. It was a separate path alongside a fairly wide single carriageway A-road, through one of those out of town light industrial / retail unit type of areas. Anyway, there were loads of turnings into these places every 100 metres or so, and at every one there was a "cyclists dismount" sign on the cycle path. It would have been easier, cheaper and safer to just make the road a bit wider and paint a green cycle lane on each side of the road.
