Given the enormous growth of the club in the last couple of years and the natural progression made by newer members I have considered the training trips to Alicante this coming March , and will be changing the format alittle . I want to expand the number of riders to a maximum of about 20 . The whole thing will be bigger with accomodation at an hotel on the coast .Twin rooms, breakfast and dinner if required , safe bike storage etc. The key difference between this and previous trips , is that there will be 2 groups . If you like , a19 mph and a 17mph ,echoing the group splits here . Both groups will have an experienced rider with them who knows the routes and cafe stops . As an example , fast group leave for longer loop and meet up with steady group fer lunch . options open to return together part way and split again . Variations on this theme . In addition there will be a choice of 1 or 2 week stays . It is worth considering that in previous years milage for fast boys has been around 900 in 2 weeks ,with 2 scheduled rest days . don't be put off folks ! You can choose when you want to ride . Dare I say the steady group will not be anywhere near that milage , and that of course is the point . I have made provisional enquiries and plans for March 2004 , and now ii need a response so that I have an idea about definate numbers , for the 1 or 2 week slots . Now , about the price . It will be much , much cheaper than alternative camps further up the coast. The price will lnclude , transport to Gatwick , rtn flights , transfers in Spain , hotel with boarding arrangements of your choice , and of course free route guidence and leadership from one of your very own aggreeables . The climate in this part of spain will be like a good brit summer in March , can be very hot ! So , please consider all the above and let me know who is interested . Bear in mind though that it is a training camp and so a good level of fitness is important to get the best uot of it . Call me for more info . Doug

Just wanted to say what a great job Doug (and others) have always done organising the Alicante trip.

I can?t recommend the trip highly enough. It occurs at that key transition point when you move from winter base training to speed work.

If you would like to read a day-by-day account of the 2002 trip that includes an account of the daily mileage and weather, plus the obligatory photographs please go to http://www.markcole.net.
