Who lead out the sprint!? Dave K followed by George I seem to remember. When Dave went to the front, with George on his wheel, and I on George's, there weren't no one on mine 8)

I then overhauled George's brief effort to try to be a sprinter, despite the continuing knee issue and general fatigue. :x

Havn't touched my bike since Saturday, though I was able to put the power down the HR was not playing ball, a sure sign the previous weeks of racing and major crash have taken their toll. I intend to resume training on Wednesday however, so we'll see what happens...

On the nutrition issue, I see that the advice from Hammer Nutrition is to eat, er, a Hammer Gel. Well, who'd have thought it, eh :roll: . Have these people no shame?

I always carry some food on the clubrun. As a result, I have an unwrapped Go bar which has spent the last 18 months going to and from Charlwood nearly every Saturday morning. At least I know that I'm adequately prepared for the chocolate cake famine, should it ever hit the caff.

Cycling Plus this month has a dvd on training for the Etape. Sponsored by SIS the nutrition section has the intrepid riders detailing the "food" they scarf down during the ride, mostly PSP22, GO drink, and GO bars. Not a hard boiled egg or banana between them.

Whatever happened to cold lobster and armagnac that used to sustain Messrs Anquetil et al?

I woke up yesterday, monday, with a real stinker (hold the jokes please). Maybe that was the culprit for saturdays bonking? (now gentlemen please, really :shock: ) Sore throat this morning but things now seem to be going in the right direction and hopefully will be able to get on the turbo tomorrow night :)

Wow are you serious Steve? On any ride longer than two hours I'll have at least a 2 or 3 of energy bars.


Yes Toks, never taken food on club run. Ride to CSS is a warm up, 25mins. Basically the ride to the cafe is about an hour and a bit. With energy drink you should easily be ok without eating if you have a breakfast in you. 30mins rest with cake and tea/ energy drink and an hour or so's ride back (boxhill a bit longer) should be a doddle without anymore food. Maybe I'm wrong but I've always been ok. Infact if I have ever eaten more in the cafe I've ended up with cramps.
Toks you live a lot further away from CSS than me so yes you probably do need to eat more while on the CR. Hope to see you out on one soon 8)

always have a decent breakfast before I set out (porridge). then anything up to one hour, just carry water, 1-2 hours energy drinks, over 2 hours drinks and a pocket full of snacks.
