Handlebars

Postby SimonJOsborne » Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:00 am

I am looking at getting some new handlebars for my summer bike as I never really got on with the Millenium 4 Ever bars on it. I was looking at the Millenium Carbon Wing bars because I reckon the flat part would be handy for long rides and sportives. Would anyone recommend Wing Shape bars? Otherwise I may look at some OS bars. Also, are handlebars that are say 46cm wide more comfortable than a narrower set?

I use Power bars they are 12cm but SIS go bars are 14cm, they are also handy for long rides but a lot more comfortable for the back are clif bars, yummy

 I'd go for Torq myself.

Don't use/like wing bars but regarding the measurements the bar width should be based on your shoulder width as that's what you will naturally find most comfortable. You don't want to go too wide as riding on the hoods would be uncomfortable.

There was a link on the pez site to a little video about bars and chosing the right ones as an intro to a bike fitting dvd. It was quite good but seems to have disappeared now, I expect you could find it on youtube though.

The Wing bars are nice, but be careful on width - too narrow are inefficient, too wide are uncomfortable. A good measure is the width of your ribcage.
